This provision is inadequate
The childminder has not ensured Ofsted is notified about assistants working with her in the setting so that their suitability can be assessed promptly. The childminder has not completed mandatory training in child protection to ensure she has the knowledge and skills to promote children's welfare effectively at all times. The childminder has not ensured risk assessments are carried out to identify and minimise potential hazards when she travels by public transport with children. The childminder has not ensured written parental permission is obtained before medication is administered to children in her care so that their welfare is promoted effectively. Self-evaluation is not robust and has not identified significant weaknesses in the provision. As a result, children's well-being is not sufficient ensured.
p.1
It has the following strengths
The childminder provides good quality teaching and plans effectively for children's individual learning needs. Children are supported effectively to make good progress from their starting points. Children's good behaviour is promoted well. They recognise boundaries and learn what is expected of them. They develop caring attitudes towards others and show consideration for the needs of others.

Inspection activities
The inspector looked at those parts of the childminder's home used for the care of children. The inspector observed teaching and learning activities in the indoor environment. The inspector carried out a joint observation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector looked at a sample of procedures and children's records. The inspector read written feedback from parents. The inspector spoke with the childminder, her assistant and the children at appropriate times during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is inadequate
The childminder does not have a good enough understanding of the requirements. Safeguarding is not effective. She has not ensured all relevant information about assistants is shared with Ofsted so that their suitability to work with children can be established. The childminder has not completed mandatory training in child protection to be able to fulfil her role in protecting children. Self-evaluation is not robust and does not identify significant weaknesses, such as ensuring requirements are implemented effectively at all times. The childminder ensures assistants receive support and guidance for their teaching practice. She reviews assessments regularly and monitors children's learning to help them make good progress in their development. Partnership working is well established. The childminder maintains a three-way flow of information between parents, other providers and herself. They have a shared understanding of what children
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children's learning is promoted well through a wide variety of stimulating experiences. The childminder makes use of information from observations and accurate assessments to plan effectively for children's individual learning. She adapts activities so that each child's needs are met well. She promotes their sensory learning effectively. All children are encouraged to feel and smell play dough before using this in their play. The childminder models words clearly and demonstrates to younger children how to use rolling pins to flatten dough. Older children name colours and count confidently as they make a number of items. They use scissors and child-friendly knives with good control to cut materials while they talk with the childminder and her assistant. The childminder promotes children's language skills throughout activities through good interaction and questioning. She motivates children consistently with lots of praise so that they are eager to have a go. They persist
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are inadequate
Children's welfare is not promoted fully due to weaknesses in safeguarding practice. Procedures are not followed rigorously. The childminder does not ensure written parental permission is obtained for each medication before these are administered to children. Thorough risk assessments are not in place for travelling by bus to make sure children's safety is maintained. The childminder provides a homely environment and children are happy in her care. They sing spontaneously during play and form good relationships with adults and other children. They know what is expected of them and follow routines willingly, for example, to wash their hands before meals. Children are self-assured and know what they want. They choose when to join or to leave activities. Children develop a good awareness of eating healthy options and they have many opportunities for daily outside play. They learn about the world around them through frequent outings, which the

childminder also uses to help them develop an awareness of diversity.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are prepared effectively for the next stage in their learning at nursery or school. Children learn to join in with large-group activities, to take turns at answering questions and to contribute as they listen to stories. They count during play and make marks with a range of materials. Children's independence skills are well promoted, developing strong foundations for their emotional and social skills.
