This provision is good
The childminder skilfully incorporates the seven areas of learning into interesting activities and experiences, and effectively reviews children's good progress. Children progress well and are motivated to acquire new skills. Children demonstrate a strong sense of well-being and positive self-esteem. The childminder encourages children to play well together, to nurture friendships and cooperation between them. Children behave well. All minor disagreements are appropriately managed by the childminder and children learn the importance of sharing and taking turns. Children frequently visit groups and go out in the local community, where they enjoy further opportunities to progress in their learning and learn about the environment. The childminder holds a relevant qualification and continues her professional development to improve the quality of teaching and the outcomes for children's learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Children are not always able to freely explore different textures and resources to develop their creative play. The childminder does not consistently gather the views of parents and children, to build on her good self-evaluation systems and further improve children's outcomes.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the childminder's home including the kitchen, garden and play areas. The inspector observed the childminder caring for and playing with the children. She spoke to the childminder about her practice at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector checked evidence of suitability checks carried out for all adults within the home and the childminder's self-evaluation. The inspector sampled children's progress records and a range of documentation including the safeguarding policy, children's registers, and accident and medication records. The inspector considered the views of parents as part of the inspection process.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge and understanding of how to keep children safe from harm and has developed appropriate procedures that provide a clear process to follow if she has concerns. The childminder makes good use of safety checks and risk assessments to minimise any hazards. The childminder has established good relationships with parents and keeps them informed of children's learning, development and welfare. She also seeks information from other adults involved in children's learning to provide consistency of care. The childminder has met the recommendations set at her last inspection, to improve children's care and learning experiences.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder observes and assesses children's progress well, to move them forward in their learning. She plans effectively for their likes and interests, and provides good-quality learning experiences for children. She actively encourages them to explore and show an interest in discovering new things. She engages them well and skilfully introduces mathematics into their play. For example, the childminder encourages children to learn about shape and match lids to boxes that contain items for them to explore and fit into other boxes. She effectively introduces language for size such as 'big' and 'small'. The childminder stimulates children's imaginations while they play, to extend their learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children settle well and develop a strong sense of self and attachments to the childminder. They enjoy her attention and welcome her interest in their play. The childminder works with parents to help children become happy, sociable and confident individuals. She encourages children to show care and concern for others. The childminder follows good hygiene procedures and promotes children's understanding of the importance of a healthy diet. She uses lots of praise and encouragement and thanks children for being kind and polite. Children enjoy the many play opportunities provided indoors and outdoors.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are well prepared for the next stages in their learning and are gaining the skills they need to be ready for school. They are confident, enthusiastic and happy learners. They share with other children and express their preferences. Children listen carefully and follow instructions well. They develop good communication skills.
