This provision is good
The childminder continues her professional development to extend her understanding of early years legislation and enhance her teaching practice. This enables her to protect children's welfare and support their ongoing development and learning needs. The childminder provides a safe and secure environment that children can explore without harm. She ensures that personal information is shared so she can meet children's care needs effectively. The childminder pays very good attention to storing records securely and respecting confidentiality. The childminder talks to parents and staff at other settings the children attend. This provides her with information relating to children's interests and changing needs. The resulting knowledge is used well to plan activities that engage and motivate children. The childminder plans snacks and meals so children can enjoy a variety and receive the nutrition they need to help them grow and thrive. The childminder supports them to

develop their understanding about food that is good for them and other food that is best kept for treats, such as Christmas parties. The childminder makes use of her assessments to focus accurately on what children need to do next, in order to help them to make even better progress.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, the childminder steps in too quickly during children's activities to redirect their learning. She does not allow them sufficient time to persevere at tasks and work things out for themselves.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

support children more effectively as they develop their skills in perseverance and independent learning.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity and discussed this with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of people living in the household. The inspector took account of the views and opinions of parents through written feedback shared with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder regularly updates her safeguarding training along with her understanding of addressing child protection concerns efficiently. She maintains relevant literature, including flowcharts of Local Safeguarding Children Board protocols. All information about her responsibility to protect children's welfare and her other policies and procedures are shared with parents and implemented in practice. This helps to support the smooth daily management of her setting. The childminder is alert to children's needs and monitors aspects of her practice extremely well. She listens to children and parents, taking action to adapt her service, wherever possible, to meet their changing childcare needs.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans activities based on children's current interests. This helps to secure their attention and interaction in activities and educational opportunities. The close monitoring of progress enables the childminder to identify any gaps in children's learning. She is confident in working with parents and other professionals who may be involved with a child's development. She supports children to develop their language for communication competently. Children seek the childminder out to show her their finished creations, tell her about their investigations, such as how a ball rolls, and to share stories. The childminder helps children to learn about the world around them. They enjoy trips to local playgroups where they interact socially and develop their understanding of the similarities and differences of others in society.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has high but appropriate expectations for behaviour. She is consistent in her approach so children receive clear boundaries and develop their understanding about taking others into consideration. For example, older children are quick to offer help to younger ones, showing them which buttons to press on battery-operated toys, such as phones and interactive activity boards. The childminder gives very good attention to providing physical activities and engaging children in learning outside. Her garden has been organised extremely well, matching the very good educational opportunities children enjoy inside. Larger equipment enables the children to develop their physical skills robustly, enabling children to increase their larger-muscle strength.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children have fun as they learn new skills and prepare for their eventual move on to school. Children sing simple songs from memory and dance spontaneously as they move around with confidence. They negotiate and talk about their favourite songs, taking turns to speak and listen to each other. Children make their selections about what they want to play with and demonstrate curiosity as they ask questions and share their ideas.
