This provision is good
Children are happy and confident. The childminder forms warm and sensitive relationships with them. She knows how to help children feel secure and supports their emotional well-being effectively. Children make good progress. The childminder establishes what children already know and can do when they start with her. She makes regular observations, and generally plans a range of indoor and outdoor experiences to help support the next steps in their learning. The childminder continues to improve her knowledge and skills. For example, she attends training and seeks advice from other childminders. She focuses well on identifying areas for further development and improving children's experiences. The childminder encourages children's good behaviour. For example, she reminds children to use good manners and encourages them to share and take turns with activities. Children behave well.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, the childminder does not adapt planned activities as well as possible to suit the ages of all children. For example, some mathematical activities are too advanced for younger children.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

adapt planned activities more effectively, particularly so they are fully tailored to suit the ages and needs of all children.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder with the children and spoke with the childminder about their learning. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection regarding her practice, and the arrangements for observation, assessment and planning. The inspector discussed the childminder's self-evaluation processes, including an observation of an activity. The inspector checked the documentation the childminder uses to support her practice.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has an up-to-date knowledge of child protection issues, and a good awareness of how to protect and safeguard children at all times. She has a good focus on keeping children safe and undertakes daily checks to identify and minimise any hazards. The childminder regularly evaluates her practice and this has aided improvements since her registration. Partnerships with parents are effective and the childminder keeps parents up to date on their children's progress. The childminder is conscientious in maintaining good quality, such as in her record keeping and comprehensive documentation. For example, she takes pride in completing children's developmental records to a high standard, while providing lots of photographic memories for children and their parents to share.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows children generally well. She encourages them to lead their own play and create their own ideas. They initiate many activities themselves, such as through make-believe play with their favourite cars and people figures. The childminder ensures that children have a good variety of toys and books to maintain their interest, for example, through rotating her resources regularly. Overall, the childminder supports children's communication and language effectively. For example, she speaks slowly and clearly and encourages children to repeat words. The childminder provides good opportunities for children to explore and investigate using their senses. For example, they enjoy feeling the texture of the porridge oats and develop their hand-to-eye coordination skills well, such as learning to fill up different sized containers.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder supports children's physical well-being effectively. For example, they enjoy regular walks in the community where they develop their physical skills and learn about the wider world. The childminder effectively encourages the good health of children. She teaches them to follow good hygiene routines and eat a healthy diet to support their understanding of healthy lifestyles. Children are motivated to manage some small tasks for themselves. For example, young children learn to use a knife to cut their banana and the childminder praises their efforts.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are working comfortably within the range of development typical for their age in all areas of learning. They are independent, display good levels of enjoyment, and are confident to investigate their surroundings. Children are interested in books and enjoy stories with the childminder. They develop a range of skills, which helps to prepare them well for their future move on to school.
