This provision is good
The childminder and her assistant are dedicated to working with children. They strive to make improvements to their teaching practice. Since the last inspection, they have accessed a childcare course. This has helped to improve their knowledge and understanding of working with children. A range of information regarding children's development is gathered and shared with parents. This helps children to settle and provides consistency in care and learning. The childminder's home is stimulating and homely. A good range of toys and resources is well organised and accessible. The childminder is nurturing and responsive to children's individual needs. She offers plenty of praise and reassuring cuddles when needed. This helps to support children's emotional well-being. Children make good progress. The childminder observes children's play carefully and monitors their development. She plans opportunities to support what they need to learn
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder, occasionally does not provide enough opportunities for children to think for themselves, solve problems, and extend and develop their ideas further. The childminder evaluates the quality of her practice. However, she does not gather the views of all parents and children to help identify areas for improvement and raise the quality of her provision to a higher level.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

give children more time and opportunity to think for themselves, solve simple problems and fully explore and develop their own ideas during their play provide more opportunities for all parents and children to share their views and raise the quality of the provision to an even higher level.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation and evaluated this with the childminder. The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's suitability, qualifications, training certificates, risk assessments and looked at a sample of her policies and procedures. The inspector held conversations with the childminder, assistant and children throughout the inspection. The inspector toured the areas used for childminding.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the procedures she must follow should she have concerns about children's welfare. She ensures that her knowledge is updated to help her understand child protection issues. The childminder and assistant are vigilant, and regularly risk assess the environment. This helps minimise any potential hazards both within the home and when on outings. The childminder keeps written policies and documents and ensures they are all up to date, which contributes to the good quality care she provides. The childminder has worked hard to develop the quality of her provision since the last inspection. She attends network meetings with other childcare providers to help understand and share best practice. She monitors the work of her assistant effectively and they work well as a team.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides a good range of opportunities for children to be creative. For example, she plans activities, such as printing, sticking and painting. Children sing songs, dance and move around to musical sounds. The childminder introduces instruments and various objects to enhance the activity. This helps to develop their physical skills and expressive skills. The childminder supports children's communication and language skills effectively. She gets down to children's level, uses clear speech, repeating back what they say. Children share stories and recall events from home enthusiastically. They are asked questions to help develop their thinking skills and engage in short conversations. The childminder follows children's interests well and reviews her resources regularly to reflect specific themes.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a variety of experiences for children to learn about wider communities. She takes children to visit various play sessions weekly in the local area. Trips to libraries and museums help children to develop their understanding of the world. The childminder encourages sharing and taking turns. Children understand the importance of following healthy lifestyles and wash their hands before eating nutritious foods. They enjoy taking regular exercise at the park where they learn to balance on wooden beams. The childminder promotes a positive atmosphere and children behave well.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are making good progress in all areas of development. They are confident and enthusiastic in their approach to learning. Children roll balls to each other in turn. They cheer when they catch them and giggle when they roll past. Children are sensitive to each other's feelings. They offer cuddles to help make their friends happy. All children learn to be independent, for example, they choose their own snacks and readily feed themselves. Children are developing the skills needed for future learning and eventual move to school.
