This provision is outstanding
Partnerships with parents and other professionals are very well established and highly effective. This helps to provide great consistency of care and learning for children, particularly when they attend other early years settings. The childminder makes astute and perceptive observations of children at play. She uses her findings to inform rigorous assessments of their learning. This helps to ensure all children are fully supported to quickly develop their skills. The extremely knowledgeable and dedicated childminder provides superb learning experiences for children, especially outdoors. She takes full advantage of the wonderful natural surroundings in which her home is situated. Children learn about the value of money as they count out coins to place in the honesty box at the farm shop. Children learn to talk about feelings and emotions through the inspiring activities the childminder plans. She provides gingerbread-men cutters displaying different facial

expressions. As children decorate them, they talk about feelings, such as when they feel grumpy. The childminder helps them to talk about how they feel in different situations. Children thoroughly enjoy sharing books with the childminder. They cuddle up together on the sofa and chat constantly about what is happening in the book. The childminder is acutely aware of times children are choosing stories that portray their fears, such as monsters. She gives them safe opportunities to talk and sensitive reassurance to help allay their fears. Children benefit from secure routines, tailored to their individual needs. Parents comment on how well the 'amazing' childminder supports them and their children. They state the days the children attend are their favourite days of the week. This is mainly due to the wonderful opportunities children have to play and explore outdoors.

Inspection activities
The inspector looked at the areas of the childminder's home and garden used for the care of children. The inspector observed teaching and learning activities, both inside and outside, and discussed the learning that was taking place with the childminder. The inspector accompanied the childminder and children on a walk. The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including the childminder's self- evaluation, policies and procedures. She also looked at children's learning and assessment records. The inspector looked at evidence of all suitability checks for the adults living on the premises. The inspector took account of the views of parents spoken to on the day of the inspection and as recorded in written references and questionnaires.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a deep understanding of how to recognise and respond to child protection issues. She also understands how to recognise children who may be at risk of harm from extreme behaviours and views. As part of her sharply focused self-evaluation, the childminder has plans to develop even better partnerships with local schools, by finding out their expectations of children on entry. This will help to prepare children extremely well for their next stage of learning. The impact of training is highly evident in the childminder's outstanding practice. She has attended training on the Forest School approach to learning, helping her to effectively teach children about the natural environment even further. The childminder actively encourages children to explore and take safe risks during their play.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
Teaching is rich, varied, flexible and highly focused on the individual needs of children. The childminder is extremely skilled at differentiating her teaching methods to meet each child's needs. For example, she provides a tray full of water beads outside. Older children pretend the beads are bread and fill up a toy bread van so it can be delivered to children. Younger children taking part in the same activity are given time to explore. They enjoy scooping up the beads in toy diggers and tipping them out. The childminder understands the importance of allowing children to have time to develop as independent learners. Children contently spend time lying on the floor, undisturbed as they play with toy trains and tracks. At other times, they enjoy active learning, as they race around the garden to find numbers which the childminder has hidden.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder's enthusiasm for the outdoors inspires children's interest in the natural world. A walk around the estate is relaxed and unrushed. Children take their time to splash in puddles and listen to birds singing. They are curious about how and why water turns green and why there are no ducks on the pond. The childminder uses these opportunities to help teach children about the changing seasons. Stringent procedures are in place to promote children's good health. Parents provide nutritious food each day and the childminder talks with children about the importance of healthy eating at snack times. When children have finished playing outdoors, they immediately go to the kitchen and wash their hands. They need no prompting to do this and are highly independent in this task. Children play together exceptionally well and show kindness towards each other.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
Children make outstanding progress and they thrive in the childminder's care. They are developing excellent early writing skills in many exciting ways. For example, children use writing icing to follow patterned lines on the gingerbread men they have made. Children use many opportunities to learn in their own ways and have confidence in their abilities. They count out segments of orange as they prepare snack, comparing amounts to each child's age. These fun learning experiences provide them with a very strong foundation on which to build their future education at school.
