This provision is good

 The childminder develops effective partnerships with other settings to help provide a consistent and joint approach to children's learning and development.  The childminder completes mandatory training, such as first aid and safeguarding, to help promote children's welfare and safety.  The physical environment is warm and stimulating. All children have a good range of activities to keep them interested and eager to learn.  The childminder is a good role model with a caring nature. She responds warmly to children's needs, helping them to feel emotionally secure.  The childminder is aware of children's individual needs and how to help them progress to their next stage of learning. For example, she plans to encourage children to participate in further role-play activities to support their imagination.  Children make good progress from their starting points. They develop the skills needed for their move to school.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Sometimes, the childminder misses opportunities to help children further extend their mathematical knowledge in relation to measurement, weight and capacity.  Children do not have fully consistent experiences to support their understanding of the world.

 The inspector held an interview with the childminder.  The inspector took into account the views of parents and children.  The inspector observed interactions between the childminder and children.  The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector looked at a range of documentation including children's records, the childminder's suitability and current policies.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder has made good progress since her last inspection and has met all of her previous actions and recommendations. Overall, the childminder is aware of her strengths and areas to improve upon. For example, she researches methods to support children's behaviour and to keep her safeguarding knowledge updated. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands the welfare requirements and follows correct procedures should a child be at risk of harm. The childminder monitors children's progress well, for example, through frequent observations to plan their next steps in learning. She shares these with parents, helping to provide a consistent approach in children's learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children enjoy their time with the childminder and she supports their learning well overall. For example, older children enjoy decorating crowns with glitter and younger children make masks, helping to develop their creativity skills. Children participate in baking and decorating biscuits, learning how to share resources and knead dough, supporting social and physical skills. The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn and makes frequent observations to support planning ideas. She obtains information from parents to help build on what children already know to extend their learning.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children have high levels of confidence and openly express their ideas and opinions. They are proud of their achievements and the childminder uses consistent praise to help support children's self-esteem. The childminder teaches all children about safety measures. For example, children take extra care when using knives during cooking activities or when walking along slippery surfaces outside. Children enjoy plenty of physical exercise and trips within the local community where they learn about wildlife and the world around them. Children feel emotionally secure and safe in the childminders home. They follow agreed boundaries and learn to respect each other and the environment.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children develop good skills to prepare them for school. For example, children learn how to use scissors, write their name and dress independently. They develop good independence skills, such as learning to tidy up after themselves. Older children create dance routines helping to promote confidence and creativity and younger children arrange shapes to create snowmen.
