This provision is good
The childminder has worked hard to improve her overall practice since her last inspection. For example, she has completely rearranged the toys and resources in her home, so that they are more easily accessible to children. This helps to support their independence and free choice in play. The childminder completes regular assessments of children's learning, which she shares with parents. She talks to parents about how they can further support children's learning in the home environment. The childminder gets to know children and their families well. Children thrive in the childminder's welcoming home. They respond well to her gentle and caring manner. Children make good progress in their learning. They engage well with their play and are confident learners. The childminder supports children's learning by providing activities based on their likes and interests. Children's behaviour is good. The childminder has high expectations of children. She

supports their emotional and social development effectively by giving them lots of praise and affirmation.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not make the best possible use of opportunities to help younger children develop their language skills even further during planned activities. The childminder's arrangements for professional development are not sufficiently focused on raising her knowledge and skills to the highest possible level.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

enhance teaching skills that help younger children develop their already good communication skills during planned activities focus professional development more sharply on raising knowledge and the overall quality of practice to an even higher level.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector viewed the areas of the home used for childminding purposes. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector jointly evaluated an activity with the childminder. The inspector held discussions with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection. She looked at a range of documentation, such as children's records and the evidence of the suitability of the childminder. The inspector took account of the views of parents by reading written testimonials.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of the signs and symptoms of abuse and knows who to contact if she has a concern about a child. The childminder has worked hard to meet the actions raised at her previous inspection. She now makes regular evaluations of her practice. She considers any areas for improvement and makes changes accordingly. The childminder has improved partnerships with parents and other settings that children attend. She regularly shares information about children's learning and progress. This helps to support consistency for children and ensures they make good progress in their learning. The childminder has a range of written policies and procedures which helps to support her good practice. This is shared regularly with parents.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children explore the childminder's home with confidence. The childminder understands how children learn. She uses her teaching skills to effectively support children's development. She sets children a challenge to find some resources that they need for a planned activity. Young children are able to find and locate a number of different sized cars, trains and vehicles that the childminder has requested. The childminder praises their good listening skills. Children explore the marks their vehicles make with different coloured paints. The childminder talks to children about the colour, shape and size of the marks they are making. She encourages children to have a go when they are reluctant to touch the paint with their hands. The childminder supports children to engage effectively with the activity, following their lead when it goes a different way to the one she had planned.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are settled and happy in the childminder's care. There are plenty of opportunities to explore the local community with trips to local toddler groups and parks. The childminder helps children to learn about healthy lifestyles. For example, children enjoy growing fruit and vegetables in the childminder's garden and there is daily opportunity for fresh air and exercise. The childminder is a good role model. Children behave well. They are kind and caring. Even younger children are beginning to share and take turns with each other.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning from their starting points. They sing, dance and move their bodies to music. Younger children are beginning to communicate their needs using words and gestures. All children are developing key skills that support them to make the transition to pre-school or school.
