This provision is good
The childminder is motivated to develop her provision and has made effective changes to her practice since her last inspection. For example, she completes accurate daily records of children's attendance and gains prior written permission from parents to administer medication. She now seeks parents' prior consent to share information about children's progress with other settings they attend. Children are confident, happy and settled with the childminder. They take part in a wide range of interesting and engaging activities. They make good progress in their development from their starting points. The childminder makes regular and precise assessments to help her monitor children's progress and plan for their next steps in learning accurately. The childminder collects information from the parents about children's care needs and routines. This helps her to meet children's emotional and physical needs well.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not make the most of opportunities for children to explore the natural world, particularly for those who prefer to learn outdoors. The childminder does not specifically focus her professional development on developing her teaching skills to the highest level.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

provide further opportunities for children to explore and experiment in the natural world, particularly for those children who prefer to learn outdoors focus more precisely on professional development that helps raise the quality of teaching to the highest level.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities and the childminder's interactions with children in the home. The inspector discussed the childminder's practice with her, including the impact of her teaching methods, and her use of observation and assessment to support young children's progress. The inspector looked at a range of documents, including safeguarding procedures and suitability checks and children's observations and assessment records. The inspector discussed with the childminder how she uses her self-evaluation to develop her practice further. The inspector took into account the written feedback from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows the procedures to follow should she have a concern about a child's safety or welfare. She knows who to contact to safeguard children and has attended further training to keep her knowledge up to date. The childminder carries out detailed risk assessments for her home and garden and outings to help keep children safe. The childminder evaluates her practice well and has provided additional activities, such as a greater selection of garden games to engage children's interests further. Partnerships with parents are good. Parents' positive feedback reflects how highly they value the childminder's service.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn. She actively engages in their play to help support their vocabulary and use of describing words. For example, she questions why glitter has stuck to children's hands and gives them time to think about their response. The childminder extends learning opportunities well. For example, she gives children three puzzles and mixes the pieces up to challenge them to find the correct ones. Children have plenty of opportunities to be creative. For example, they decorate pine cones and paint leaves to make Christmas themed creations. The childminder provides activities that help children recognise and respect individual groups of people. For example, children enjoy tasting Chinese tea and fortune cookies and explore the colourful lights of Diwali as they celebrate a variety of festivals.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a caring, nurturing and homely environment. She acts as a good role model and is calm and patient. The childminder uses positive praise and clear guidance to manage children's behaviour. Children behave well. They are confident and they communicate their likes and dislikes, and make choices in what they want to do from the very good range of toys available to them. Children benefit from lots of opportunities to be physically active. For example, they enjoy long woodland walks and participate in more physical challenge when using play park equipment.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are active and inquisitive learners. For example, they enjoy books and stories the childminder reads and often choose to draw and practise early writing. Children take the lead in their play and follow their own interests and ideas. For example, they use their imagination well as they play with figures in pretend play. Children develop good early mathematical skills. For instance, they freely count and talk of filling all the space on a piece of paper. Children are acquiring the necessary skills in their next steps in learning and preparation for school.
