This provision is good

 Children make good progress from their starting points. The childminder observes, assesses, and plans effectively for their learning.  Children are happy and confident in the childminder's care. They build close relationships with her and other children and feel safe and secure.  The childminder involves parents in their children's learning. For example, she gives suggestions on how they can support their children further at home.  The childminder supports children's language development well. For example, she initiates discussions and repeats words and phrases back to children. Children gain confidence in their speech and quickly develop their range of vocabulary.  The childminder is committed to making continual improvements. For example, following evaluation, she had rotated resources to motivate children and to follow children's interest in learning.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Children do not have a wide range of opportunities to extend their early reading skills while they play.  The childminder does not make the most of all opportunities for children to learn an understanding of technology.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 make the most of all opportunities for children to develop early reading skills  develop further opportunities for children to learn an understanding of technology.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector held discussions with the childminder and children throughout the inspection.  The inspector observed the interaction between the childminder and children during activities, and held discussions about children's learning and behaviour.  The inspector viewed the areas of the premises used for childminding.  The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including policies and procedures, risk assessments and the children's learning and assessment records.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder, and held discussions with her in relation to observations of the children's play, learning, and progress.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder gives children's safety the highest priority. She has a good understanding of child protection and knows what to do if she has a concern about their welfare. The childminder closely monitors children's progress and swiftly identifies any gaps in learning. She plans activities that help to close learning gaps promptly. The childminder updates her knowledge and skills regularly. For example, she has refined how she plans for children's next steps in learning. The childminder builds effective partnerships with other early years settings to ensure positive outcomes for children. For example, she shares information about children's progress, which supports their ongoing learning well.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good understanding of how to support children's learning and development. She listens to children, responds to their interests, and plans activities that challenge them to join in and learn while they play. For example, children take part in craft activities. They show good imaginative skills and create their own unique designs. Children enjoy experimenting with a variety of resources. For instance, they used role-play materials to dress up and act out different characters. The childminder uses good interaction to engage children effectively. She inspires children's early mathematical skills well. For example, children learn to match objects and show a good understanding of calculation.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides a welcoming and nurturing environment. She promotes children's emotional well-being effectively and gives the children lots of praise. Children learn about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle, for example, through daily discussions and opportunities to explore healthy food. Children enjoy physical play activities. For instance, they delight in nature trails and outings to the park. The childminder provides opportunities for children to learn about people in their community and the wider world. She encourages children's awareness of keeping themselves from harm. For example, they learn how to cross roads safely.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are motivated learners and persevere to solve problems successfully. Children communicate their needs clearly, are kind to each other, and learn to manage their own feelings. Their vocabulary and understanding is developing well. Children manage tasks for themselves, develop good independence, and make choices in their play. For example, children create their own music and dance sessions with enthusiasm. Children develop the skills they need for their move to pre-school and school.
