This provision is good
The childminder is committed to the continual improvement of her provision. She gathers information from parents and reflects on the service she provides for families. This helps her to improve the experiences children receive. The childminder liaises extremely well with other early years settings and childminders that children attend. She shares information about their care and learning and complements their learning experiences in her setting. The childminder is well organised and ensures that she follows her procedures so children have good opportunities to learn and keep safe. The childminder uses her secure knowledge of how children learn and develop to plan appropriate next steps in their development. Through observations and assessments, she ensures that any gaps in learning are addressed, helping children to make good progress. The childminder provides a warm, friendly and inviting environment. Children settle

quickly and freely explore the childminder's home, selecting resources to support their interests.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not obtain enough detailed information about children's prior learning when they first start, in order to help her to plan precisely for their next steps in learning. The childminder does not support parents as fully as possible to guide their children's learning at home.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's training certificates. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of the childminder and adult members of the household. The inspector took account of parents' comments on the quality of the provision.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has attended a variety of training courses to extend her professional development. This has helped her to expand the experiences children receive to support their communication and language skills. The childminder provides parents with a daily diary which includes information about children's care needs and activities they have enjoyed. She helps older children to become emotionally ready for their move on to school. The childminder talks to children about the changes they will have and passes on information to the school about children's learning. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder knows where to report any concerns about children's safety or welfare. She helps children to understand how to keep themselves safe. For example, older children talk confidently about the procedures they will follow in the event of a fire in the home.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn and what they need to progress at a good rate. She provides a wide range of resources that is inviting and stimulating for children. This is complemented by the exciting range of planned activities that provides children with challenges. Children thoroughly enjoy making a musical instrument and shaking it to listen to the sound. The childminder helps them to develop their mathematical skills. For example, she begins to count pasta into a box, counting to three and children continue this by saying four. The childminder helps children to develop their vocabulary and confidence. She sings nursery rhymes and encourages toddlers to join in. Older children learn about rhyming words and the rhythm in songs. They learn skills in readiness for their move on to school.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder offers settling-in sessions for children prior to starting. This helps her to gather information from parents to help her to support children's emotional needs when they first start. Children complete tasks on their own, thereby developing their independence. For example, they wash their hands prior to eating and put on shoes and hats to go outside. The childminder ensures that children receive daily fresh air and physical exercise. As well as accessing toys and equipment in the childminder's garden, she takes them to soft-play centres and parks. The childminder encourages children to develop their social skills when she takes them to toddler groups. Children play and mix with other children. Children behave well and play cooperatively together.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Younger children make good progress in their speaking skills. They learn new words, such as sticky and demonstrate good listening skills. Older children have access to books and writing tools to support their development in literacy. They excitedly lift flaps in books, anticipating what sound will come from the page. This helps children to understand about technology. All children, including those in receipt of funding, flourish and make good progress.
