children time to think about and respond to her questions. Children make good progress.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder has yet to develop partnerships with all other settings children attend to further support consistency in children's learning and development.  Occasionally, the childminder does things for the children which they could do for themselves.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 develop partnerships with all other settings children attend, to ensure consistency to fully support their learning  encourage children to take responsibility to manage tasks for themselves to develop their independence further.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching and the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector sampled a range of documentation including children's records and the childminder's policies.  The inspector and childminder observed children during activities and completed a follow-up discussion about children's learning and progress.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector took account of parents' views, from their written comments.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands her responsibility to keep children safe. She knows what to do if she has a concern about a child's welfare including identifying any children who may be at risk of harm from extreme behaviours and views. Effective self-evaluation has helped the childminder to identify areas for development and make ongoing improvements. This includes seeking the views of parents and children to help improve the quality of her provision. For example, she is developing the outside environment to include a planting and growing area. She keeps up to date with changes and seeks support and guidance from early years professionals to help improve the quality of teaching. For example, in response to using new ideas, the childminder has introduced a range of activities and teaching methods to better support children's language development.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder provides a wide range of learning experiences and activities, which children enjoy. She uses various resources and fun ideas to encourage children to recognise numbers. For example, when out walking she encourages the children to look for numbers in the environment such as on front doors and on car number plates. This successfully supports some aspects of children's mathematical knowledge. Children enthusiastically use their imagination as they make Christmas pictures with stickers and shapes. They concentrate for long periods and excitedly talk about what they are doing. The childminder extends children's knowledge and understanding well. For example, they talk about and compare the similarities between reindeers and horses, as they talk about their pictures.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are polite and kind. The childminder teaches them the importance of sharing and taking turns, so that they can play harmoniously together. Children's behaviour is good. The childminder provides daily opportunities for children to benefit from fresh air and physical exercise. They play in the garden, attend children's groups, go for walks in the woods and visit the city farm. They learn the importance of hand washing as they follow thorough hygiene routines. The childminder teaches children how to stay safe, for example, by discussing road safety when they go on outings.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress from their individual starting points. They listen well and follow instructions from the childminder. They learn important skills in preparation for the next stage in their learning and school. For example, they practise their early writing skills and dress themselves for outside play.
