This provision is good
The childminder provides children with a welcoming environment and a good range of quality toys. Children are motivated to engage in play and make good progress in their development from their starting points. The childminder is patient and calm. She builds positive relationships with the children, who are settled and happy in her home. Children behave well and show good levels of confidence and self-esteem. The childminder supports children's individual interests well. For example, she finds out about their favourite activities and includes these in her planning. The childminder helps children gain an understanding of healthy lifestyles. For example, she provides nutritious foods and explains the importance of brushing their teeth. Children learn to follow good hygiene procedures, such as handwashing. The childminder keeps up to date with early years information. For example, she completes reading and research and shares ideas with other childcare professionals.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder has not fully considered how to provide a range of resources to help children extend their creativity. The childminder does not make the most of opportunities to develop children's understanding of letters and their sounds, to help extend their literacy development.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder and children interacting together. The inspector held discussions with the childminder in relation to observations of the children's play, learning and progress. The inspector looked at a sample of paperwork, including training certificates, children's records and evidence of the childminder's suitability checks.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder is committed to providing a good quality service for children and families and has developed her setting since the last inspection. For example, she has extended her range of toys and has introduced story sacks to help further develop children's interest in books. The childminder reflects well on her strengths and weaknesses and seeks feedback from parents and children to help develop her setting further. For example, she has provided a newsletter to keep parents well informed of activities and regularly changes her environment to help keep children interested and engaged. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands her responsibility to protect children from harm. She knows the process to follow should she have concerns about the welfare of children or families.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good knowledge of how children learn. She interacts well with children to help extend their communication. For example, she introduced new vocabulary such as 'praying mantis' when she read a story and she talked about the different shades of colours. The childminder plays effectively alongside children and encourages them to ask questions and to make their own choices about what to do. She helps children to develop their understanding of mathematics. For example, the childminder uses language relating to size and helps children to count to 10 during play. The childminder monitors children's progress well to identify and plan for their next steps in learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder knows the children well. She works closely with parents to help provide consistency of care and learning. For example, she shares information about children's development and next steps in learning with them and finds out about their children's progress at home. The childminder helps children to stay safe. For example, she completes regular visual checks to identify hazards and provides equipment such as stairgates to minimise any risks. The childminder uses her local community well to extend children's learning and help them develop positive social skills. For example, the childminder visits parks and groups, including a music group.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children gain important skills and are prepared well for their next stage in learning. For example, young children talk in detailed sentences about their homes and families and are confident to ask the childminder questions. Children develop good physical skills, such as managing their own hygiene and using tools during play. They name colours and parts of the body and are confident with basic technology. Children understand the importance of taking turns and sharing with others.
