This provision is good
The childminder has good relationships with parents and adults at the other settings that children attend, to provide a consistent approach to children's care and learning. The childminder consistently models language well to help children learn new words and support their confidence to think and answer questions. Children make good progress in their learning. The childminder organises the environment well. Children can freely choose from a wide range of materials and resources that help to develop their physical and exploratory experiences in different ways. The childminder is very caring and responsive to children's individual needs. Children show that they feel safe and secure in her home. The childminder consistently encourages children's positive behaviour. She has clear boundaries appropriate to children's age and stage of development to help children take turns and respect the needs of others.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently use the views of parents and children to build on her good systems for self-evaluation, to improve her service further. The childminder assesses children's development but does not make the best use of the information to provide activities which challenge children to make better than good progress.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed children's play indoors and outdoors, and evaluated the effectiveness of a planned activity with the childminder. The inspector observed children's mealtimes and hygiene routines. The inspector spoke to a parent and read parents' comments, to take account of their views. The inspector sampled a range of the policies and documentation that the childminder uses to support children's health and safety. The inspector spoke to children and sampled their learning and development records.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of how to safeguard children to help protect their welfare. She is aware of the signs and symptoms that would cause her concern and knows how to respond if necessary. The childminder regularly assesses potential risks to children and has effective policies in place to explain to parents how she keeps children healthy and safe. She evaluates her practice well overall and has met the recommendations set at her last inspection. The childminder successfully uses professional development opportunities to better her knowledge; for example, to learn about changing safeguarding issues. Parents receive regular information about children's activities to help them support their children's learning at home.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder gives children the time they need to develop their play and explore their ideas. For example, she encourages children to give meaning to their drawings and helps them as they attempt to write their own names. Children enjoyed exploring arctic animal toys, materials and plastic ice cubes. The childminder encouraged them to feel the ice cubes and to describe how they felt, to develop their play. She engages children well and uses all opportunities to extend their learning. For example, she encouraged children as they used binoculars to look closely at the animals. The childminder makes regular opportunities to introduce mathematics during play. For example, she supports children well as they join foam alphabet mats together to make a roundabout shape.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children show they are happy and confident as they play. The childminder is welcoming and attentive to children and they settle well. She helps children develop good attitudes towards each other and play cooperatively together. For example, during story time, children take it in turns to share puppets and toys. The childminder encourages children's good health through a range of everyday routines and activities. For example, children help to prepare nutritious lunches and enjoy regularly playing outside where they develop good physical skills. They learn about diversity and the wider community well. For example, children enjoy attending local groups where they socialise with others and visiting various places of interest such as parks, farms and the seaside.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children are well prepared for the next stages in their learning. They name and sound out the letters of the alphabet; for example, as they look at books. Children count and play with numbers in various ways. For instance, they confidently make up numbers using plastic ice cubes and learn to recognise shapes. Children develop good levels of independence as they manage different tasks, such as putting on their coats and shoes.
