This provision is good

 Children benefit greatly from the childminder's friendly, enthusiastic and patient approach to supporting their learning and welfare needs. They enjoy positive relationships with her and are confident and relaxed in her care.  The childminder supports toddlers effectively to begin to manage their feelings and behaviour.  Children make good progress in preparation for their next stages of learning and future school lives. The childminder knows them well and reflects routinely on their development, to plan suitably challenging activities to help them progress further.  The childminder tends well to children's welfare needs to ensure that children remain comfortable during their time with her.  The childminder supervises children effectively and ensures that her home is safe, to reduce the risk of any accidents or incidents.  The childminder has a positive approach to developing her practice to further improve

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not make the best use of the outdoor learning environment to fully support children who enjoy being active and outside.  Sometimes, the childminder misses opportunities to provide children with a wider range of experiences to explore media and materials, to develop their learning further.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 extend opportunities for energetic outdoor play for children who enjoy being active and like being outside, to further support their physical development  extend opportunities for children to explore a wider range of media and materials to develop their curiosity and interest in the world around them.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the activities provided.  The inspector talked to the childminder about her practice at appropriate points throughout the inspection.  The inspector and the childminder observed and discussed an activity together.  The inspector looked at children's assessment records and the childminder's training records.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder evaluates her practice routinely and monitors children's progress effectively to identify her strengths and areas for further improvement. She encourages parents, carers and children to share their views about her setting to contribute to evaluation procedures. Since the last inspection, the childminder has developed her understanding of working in partnership with parents and others and preparing children for school. She encourages continuity in children's care and learning. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps up to date with relevant safeguarding procedures and information, and knows what to do if she has concerns about a child.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder follows the interests of toddlers effectively to challenge their skills and build on their previous learning. For example, when they show an interest in making marks, she provides writing materials to encourage them to experiment with marks and colour. She teaches children new skills, such as learning to count and categorise objects, to support their mathematical development. The childminder responds enthusiastically to children's attempts to communicate and maintains good levels of interaction to encourage their language development. She works well with parents to share information about children's progress and to guide their children's development at home.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder teaches toddlers effectively about behavioural expectations. For example, she models good behaviour, explains that some things are shared and helps them to manage their frustrations. The childminder helps children to develop a positive approach to diversity through a range of experiences, for example, as children enjoy choosing relevant books from the local library. She teaches children to follow safety procedures to learn how to keep themselves safe. The childminder ensures that children can sleep, eat and drink in accordance with their individual needs, to support their health effectively.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Toddlers concentrate well and explore the indoor learning environment with interest. They are beginning to manage their feelings as they respond to appropriate boundaries and they are able to play alongside others cooperatively for most of the time. Toddlers become confident communicators as they make their own noises and learn to copy words and phrases. They understand simple sentences and instructions. Toddlers make some good progress in their physical skills as they handle different objects and make marks with writing materials. Older toddlers develop personal skills for independence in preparation for group settings.
