This provision is good

 The childminder has significantly improved the quality of her practice and provision. She has addressed the actions and recommendations previously made. For example, she maintains the required documentation.  The childminder provides a variety of interesting activities and resources for children. She observes children and monitors their progress. She plans activities based on children's individual needs and interests. All children make good progress in their learning.  The childminder shares positive relationships with parents. For example, they share information to support children's progress and well-being. Parents comment they are very happy with the care their children receive.  Children behave well, they learn from a young age to share and take responsibility. For example, they help tidy away toys. The childminder supports children in developing a positive awareness of differences in others.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not organise resources as effectively as possible to enable young children to choose activities themselves.  The childminder has not yet fully explored ways to support children's home languages.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 review the organisation of space and resources to help younger children extend their learning experiences  strengthen the programme for communication and language by providing children with opportunities to use languages they speak at home.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children taking part in activities and observed the childminder's interaction with them.  The inspector viewed the areas of the premises available for children's use.  The inspector sampled documentation the childminder uses to support her practices and discussed self-evaluation.  The inspector evaluated a learning activity with the childminder and spoke with her at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector took account of written feedback from parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection procedures. She knows how to refer concerns about a child's welfare. She maintains the required documentation and uses these to underpin her practice. The childminder demonstrates a commitment to professional development and making improvements. For example, she develops her knowledge through reading and talking to other childminders. She shares ideas and introduces new activities to help further engage children. The childminder evaluates her practice to help support continuous development. For instance, she seeks the views of parents and receives support from early years advisers to help identify her strengths and areas for further improvement.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children are happy and motivated to learn. The childminder knows their individual needs well. She effectively monitors the progress children make and identifies the next steps in their learning. She skilfully extends children's learning. For example, she introduces early mathematics by counting with young children as they fill pots with pasta and lentils. Children are eager to join in activities. For example, they become excited as they wait to see what the childminder has put in her special box and they handle the items they find with interest.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The nurturing childminder promotes children's social and emotional skills well. For example, the childminder offers reassurance and is attentive to their needs. She recognises when young children are tired and need their nappy changing. Children are happy and secure and share strong bonds with the childminder. Children develop a good understanding of how to be healthy. They participate in a range of physical and outdoor activities. For example, they make trips to the park and move their bodies to music. They enjoy healthy food and lots of fresh air.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in relation to their starting points and are well prepared for the next stage in their learning, including their eventual move to nursery or school. Children are enjoying and achieving as they engage in suitable activities. For example, they join in action songs. They use push along toys to develop their muscles and skills in walking. They explore musical toys and enjoy picking up and banging a drum. Children delight in exploring a post box and working out how shapes fit in the holes. They show good levels of confidence and self-esteem and interact positively with the childminder.
