This provision is good

 The well-qualified team has a good understanding of how children learn and typically plans appropriate activities to sustain their individual interest.  Self-evaluation is effective and the staff team recognises the areas for future development of the setting. Parents speak very highly of the nursery and the care and learning opportunities their children receive.  Staff have good partnerships with other professionals involved in children's care. They work closely together to help children of all abilities make good progress, given their starting points.  Staff monitor children's progress effectively. They plan very well for individual children's learning, including those who are learning English as an additional language.  Effective monitoring of staff progress helps the manager to identify effective training and coaching to help staff continuously raise the standards of care and teaching. Children are happy and well settled within the nursery environment.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 At times, when staff ask children questions, they do not give them the appropriate amount of time to think through and express their answers.  Occasionally, staff miss opportunities to encourage older children to develop their writing skills even further.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 consistently give children the appropriate length of time to answer questions to support their thinking and language skills as fully as possible  help older children to develop their writing skills more effectively to enhance their literacy skills.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities and the impact of teaching on children's learning in the indoor areas.  The inspector looked at a sample of records relating to planning, children's assessment and welfare.  The inspector held discussions with the manager and staff at appropriate times during the day.  The inspector spoke to parents about their children's care, learning and development and took their views into consideration.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Staff have a good understanding of how to keep children safe. They carry out daily checks on the environment. Children learn about keeping safe through holding hands, looking and listening for traffic when out on walks from the nursery. Staff know what to do if they are concerned about a child's well-being. For example, they know the indicators that a child may be at risk of exposure to extreme ideas about right and wrong. Safeguarding is effective. The setting works very effectively with parents and regularly shares information with them on their children's learning and development. Close links with other professionals working with children ensures that there is continuity in children's care and education.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children take part in a wide variety of stimulating activities based on their interests and needs. They are easily able to access resources and make independent choices in play. Staff place great focus on helping children to have an understanding of numbers. For example, children use tape measures to compare the sizes of each other and resources within the environment. Accurate assessments of children allow staff to offer additional support to children of differing abilities. For example, children take part in small group activities to encourage communication and language skills. Staff talk with them and children show delight in recognising what might happen next in a story.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Staff act as positive role models to children and praise them for their efforts and achievements. This helps children to have a positive self-image. Children have plenty of opportunities to be physically active and learn about the importance of having a healthy diet. During the summer, they grow their own vegetables in the nursery garden to enjoy at snack time. Staff encourage children to be respectful to one another. For example, during group activities children take turns talking about items they have brought from home. Children are gently reminded daily of the nursery rules, such as having listening ears and being kind to others. Behaviour is very good.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are confident, motivated and have fun while they learn. They are developing valuable skills that will help them at school, such as playing cooperatively with others and developing their number and speaking skills. Older children develop their independence through using the toilet unaided and putting on suitable outdoor clothing for play.
