This provision is good
The childminder provides a homely and welcoming environment for children. A wide variety of resources is available for children to choose from. Children thrive in the care of the childminder and enjoy their close relationships with her. The childminder has good relationships with parents. She keeps them well informed of activities that their children are involved in and the progress they are making. The quality of teaching is good. Learning experiences are carefully tailored to children's needs and interests. Overall, clear observations and tracking documents ensure children are moving forward with their learning and any gaps are quickly identified. The childminder is a positive role model for children. She is patient, kind and sensitive to children's individual requirements. She encourages them to share, be polite and recognise each other's needs. This helps children to adopt good behaviour.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not fully plan activities linked to children's individual stage of development. While the childminder has reflected on her service, improvements do not focus on the impact on children's learning.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed an evaluation of the session with the childminder. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. She looked at relevant documentation, such as children's portfolios, policies and procedures and evidence of the suitability of all adults living in the childminder's home. The inspector took into account the views of parents through written feedback.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is aware of the signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect. She is clear about the procedures to follow should she have concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder has also updated her understanding of child protection. She is aware of emerging complex issues that may affect children in her care. Children are further protected as the childminder regularly assesses the environment for risks. Measures are in place to minimise any harm to children. The childminder has built positive relationships with other early years providers. This, overall, helps to support her professional development through shared thinking and good practice. Parents are complimentary about the care the childminder offers and the positive impact she has on the children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder begins to gather information about children during their first weeks in her care. She utilises this information to support them and to help her meet their individual needs. She plans meaningful and interesting activities for children, supporting their ongoing progress overall. Children enjoy participating in expressive arts. They use instruments to support sound and music and move their bodies, expressing their emotions through dance. The childminder extends their understanding of emotions and encourages children to draw their feelings and thoughts, supporting their self-awareness. The childminder enthusiastically reads stories to children and asks them questions to help extend their thinking and language. For example, children develop their skills by recalling and reciting stories to others using the pictures as prompts. Their language development and love of literacy are further enhanced and they enjoy weekly trips to the local library.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder encourages children to lead a healthy lifestyle. They enjoy daily fresh air and trips out to support their physical development. They have regular home-cooked meals to help support their understanding of a balanced diet. Self-care routines are fully established. Children enjoy washing their hands prior to eating or following creative activities. Children are beginning to understand the importance of caring for animals and living things. This helps to develop their respect and consideration for others. The childminder develops children's confidence by listening to them and following their interests. She adapts easily and quickly to their changing needs which in turn supports their positive outlook.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children relish exploring and investigating opportunities presented to them. Children have the skills to use in their future learning and eventual move to school. They are making good progress in their learning. Children are motivated, keen individuals who enjoy challenges. They are confident to express themselves and display their feelings. Children enjoy close relationships with the childminder which support their self-esteem.
