This provision is good

 The childminder has successfully improved her practice since the last inspection. She reflects on her effectiveness and takes positive steps to develop her provision for children further.  The childminder provides a good range of toys and activities for children. She supports children well and they make good progress in their development. Suitable observation and assessment procedures enable the childminder to plan effectively for children's next steps.  Children settle well and feel at home with the childminder. They are content and happy, with their individual needs met well. The childminder enables the children to develop the skills they need for their next stage in learning.  Positive partnerships with other settings support continuity of care and learning for children effectively. The childminder prepares children well for their admission to pre- school.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not extend the information available to parents about children's development, to involve them further in the assessment process and children's learning.  The childminder misses some opportunities to help younger children to fully understand and make choices during activities.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 increase the opportunities to involve parents further in the assessment process and children's learning  extend support to younger children to help them fully understand and make choices during activities.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the childminder and children in their indoor activities.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder.  The inspector read feedback from parents and took account of the childminder's self- evaluation process.  The inspector sampled children's development records.  The inspector checked the safety and suitability of the premises, toys and equipment.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder conducts ongoing risk assessments and takes effective steps to maintain safety. For example, she routinely checks the garden, identifies possible hazards and then protects children from risk of accidents. The childminder supervises children well to keep them safe. She cleans toys on a regular basis to help protect children's health. The childminder uses development support information well to improve provision. For example, she is more effective in her self-evaluation process. She meets with other childminders to develop her knowledge further, such as ideas for activities. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of the procedures that enable her to protect children's welfare.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder provides good support for children's individual learning and development. For example, she helps babies to develop their physical skills and become increasingly mobile. The childminder interacts well with babies and toddlers to encourage communication. They smile, babble and learn new sounds and words, which develops vocabulary. The childminder observes children as they play and reflects on their learning. She extends activities to further support children, for example, by encouraging them to count objects to help them understand numbers. The childminder makes effective use of ideas from pre-school settings, to support children's learning in her home.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder has a good awareness of children's individual interests, which she uses well to support learning. For example, she provides a variety of soft balls and other items that are safe for young children. The childminder plays throw and catch games so that young children play with a purpose. Children respond well to the childminder and develop a good understanding of expected behaviour. For instance, toddlers help themselves to a drink and know to put their cup back on the table. Children understand about safety. For example, they know to hold the handle of the pushchair when they are on an outing. The childminder provides additional social opportunities for children, such as at toddler groups and village events.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children feel safe and happy, and are well cared for. They have warm relationships with the childminder and make friendships. Children show an interest in their surroundings and are inquisitive, which supports their skills for learning. For example, they confidently select books and enjoy stories with the childminder.
