This provision is good
The manager and staff have worked well to make improvements to the setting since the last inspection. They have plans in place that are inspired by the children's current interests. Staff meet regularly to discuss children's needs and wishes. The club is well resourced. Staff provide plenty of interesting and varied activities that cater for all of the ages of the children who attend. Children behave well and form secure friendships. Older children are attentive and courteous to the younger children; their emotional well-being is supported well. Partnerships with parents are good. Parents speak very highly of the club, and comment how staff genuinely care about the children and are very approachable. Staff celebrate children's achievements and praise them. Children respond well to the positive response from staff, and they show respect to other children and adults.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Opportunities for staff to enhance their professional knowledge are less successful at times, particularly in ensuring that their awareness of changes to relevant legislation is up to date as early as possible. At times, staff miss opportunities to encourage older children to manage some daily tasks, for example during mealtimes, to sharpen further their independence skills. 2 of 5

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

strengthen the focus on supporting the continued professional development of staff, to keep their knowledge as up to date as possible increase opportunities for older children to learn how to manage some daily tasks for themselves, to enhance their independence.

Inspection activities
The inspector checked documents including the staff suitability checks and training certificates. The inspector held discussions with the manager about the club's self-evaluation processes. The inspector sampled the club's policies and procedures including those relating to safeguarding. The inspector spoke with staff and observed their teaching practices. The inspector spoke to parents during the inspection to take account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. Staff have a good knowledge of how to keep children safe. For example, they have undertaken relevant child protection training and they are aware of the procedures to follow if they have any welfare concerns about a child. Children attend regularly and there are good arrangements for monitoring their attendance with the school and parents. A thorough vetting and employment process ensures that staff are suitable and have the skills required to work with children. The manager ensures all staff follow a rigorous induction programme. Relationships between the staff team are strong and they are good role models for children. Staff work well with class teachers and parents to complement children's learning in school. For example, children willingly clear away and support one another as they gather for 'homework time'.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The manager and staff converse with the children in a relaxed manner such as when encouraging them to talk about their day at school and other events in their lives. Staff reflect children's ideas into their planning and children choose from the well-resourced activities on offer. Staff extend children's creative and imaginative skills. For example, they provide various craft materials to make Christmas cards and figures, in response to the children's request. Skilled staff adapt well to children's varying levels of ability and offer appropriate help such as to develop their mathematical and communication skills. The staff team works hard to provide a variety of activities that children enjoy. For example, they carefully set up the play areas before the children arrive. Overall, children are confident, motivated to explore and fully engaged in the play environment.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The club provides a healthy menu and is aware of how to support children's awareness of healthy lifestyles. Staff offer children with healthy snacks and opportunities for them to be physically active. For example, children access the large outdoor football courts daily in all weathers, where they fully enjoy kicking footballs, running and chasing each other. Older children are mindful of the younger children, for instance they support and enable them to join in with games and activities. Staff reinforce the importance of children following good hygiene practices. For instance, they ensure children wash their hands after using the toilet and before eating. Children are well prepared for changes in their schooling. For example, staff discuss children's individual needs with class teachers, particularly as children move up to the next class. 4 of 5
