She plans interesting experiences that help children develop their skills and positive attitudes to learning. All children make good progress.  Children feel welcome and relaxed in the childminder's safe home. They enjoy close relationships with the childminder, her co-childminder and other children, and behave very well.  The childminder is eager to develop her knowledge and skills for her professional development. She regularly reviews her practice and makes changes to improve outcomes for children. She has successfully addressed all recommendations from the last inspection.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 At times, the childminder does not give children enough time to think and follow their own ideas before moving them on.  Sometimes, the childminder misses opportunities to help children understand the benefits of eating nutritional foods, such as fruits and vegetables, as part of their healthy lifestyles.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities and the childminder's interaction with children throughout the inspection.  The inspector sampled children's observation, planning and assessment documents, and looked at the registration records.  The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's and her co-childminder's suitability to work with children, and sampled some of their policies and procedures.  The inspector held conversations with both childminders and the children.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

She understands her duties to safeguard children and knows the procedures to follow if she has a concern about a child's safety or welfare. The childminder carefully checks children's progress and takes prompt action to address any weaker areas. She regularly shares her findings with parents and offers them practical advice, for instance, on ways to extend their children's learning at home to build consistency in their development.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder provides children with a range of enjoyable, interesting and age- appropriate learning experiences, both in the home and outside. For example, children enjoy decorating a real Christmas tree indoors and have fun riding tricycles and drawing outdoors. The childminder regularly observes children and plans experiences based on their interests and learning needs. She skilfully supports children in developing their language, such as ensuring that they pronounce words correctly. Children enjoy singing actions songs and listening to stories. They communicate well with the childminder.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder is caring, sensitive and skilled in helping children to settle and develop secure emotional attachments. This enables children to develop self-confidence and nurtures their overall well-being. The childminder has a calm and consistent approach to managing children's behaviour. For example, she skilfully resolves minor arguments between children, and provides consistent routines and boundaries. Children have many opportunities to learn about diversity in the wider community, such as through a wide range of activities, resources and books. Children benefit from nutritious meals and plenty of fresh air and exercise. They follow good hygiene routines. Children show good levels of independence. For example, young children learn to prepare fruits at snack time and help to put toys away.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

The childminder supports children well in practising and refining a number of necessary skills, particularly to help them to develop socially, physically and emotionally. All children make good progress in readiness for the next stages in their learning and school.
