This provision is good
Children feel happy, secure and settled. The childminder knows them well and is very sensitive to their individual needs. This helps to support children's emotional development successfully. The childminder effectively tracks the progress children make in their learning and development. This helps her to intervene quickly if children require extra support, and to enable all children to make good progress in their learning from their starting points. The childminder creates a warm and welcoming learning environment. For example, she provides a good range of resources and learning experiences that engage children, and also encourages them to learn about the wider community. Children's physical well-being is good. For example, the childminder encourages healthy eating and ensures that children have daily access to outdoor play. The childminder involves parents well in their children's care and learning. She shares

information regularly regarding children's development to help build on continuity in children's care and learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
At times, children find it difficult to share resources and take turns in activities and this sometimes disrupts their play. On occasions, the childminder misses opportunities to count and compare sizes with children during activities to help extend their early mathematical skills.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

develop effective strategies to help children learn to share resources and take turns in activities to help minimise disruption in their play seize all opportunities arising from children's play to improve their understanding of numbers, shapes and measurement.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector observed activities and interactions between the childminder and children both indoors and outside. The inspector viewed documentation including children's learning records, policies and procedures. The inspector viewed all areas of the property used for childminding. The inspector discussed the childminder's completed self-evaluation form.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder understands and implements the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage well. For example, she ensures that all welfare requirements are met and sets high expectations for her service to provide the best possible care and learning. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows what action to take should any welfare concern arise. She attends regular safeguarding training which helps her to be aware of wider safeguarding issues such as recognising children who may be at risk of extreme views or behaviour. She completes thorough risk assessments to eliminate potential hazards to help children play in safe learning environments. The childminder monitors the practice of her assistant effectively and ensures that she meets children's needs fully.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder gathers information about children's interests and assesses their skills and abilities when they start. She completes ongoing assessments to plan what they need to learn next. The childminder encourages children's communication and language skills very well. For example, she effectively engages children in conversations and asks them questions related to what they are doing. The childminder is skilled at supporting children to develop good pencil control ready for their next stage of learning. For example, she encourages very young children to use cotton buds to paint in between lines. This is further extended with stimulating activities such as tracing and mark making.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are fully aware of routines and the childminder helps them to understand and manage minor risks. For example, young children take part in tidying away resources and learn to be careful and look out for their friends while playing with different equipment in the garden. Furthermore, the childminder practises regular fire drills with the children to help them understand what to do in case of a fire or an emergency. The childminder encourages children to explore their surrounding with confidence, choosing what interests them. For example, she stores resources at a low level to enable babies and younger children to access them easily.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Young children are developing good communication and language skills. Children are very active, confident and independent learners. For example, they enjoy ride-on and balancing resources to learn how to coordinate their bodies in different ways. They also begin to acquire independence skills such as putting on their coats and shoes. They are well prepared for their next stage of learning and in readiness for their move on to primary school.
