This provision is good

 The childminder monitors children's progress well to identify any emerging gaps in their development and provide appropriate support to improve outcomes for children.  The childminder knows the children well and provides a homely and nurturing environment. Children are happy and settled and build good relationships with the childminder.  Children behave well. The childminder teaches children about respecting others, such as through taking turns.  The childminder provides toys and experiences that engage and interest children. Children make good progress from their starting points.  The childminder helps children to gain good levels of confidence and self-esteem. For example, she praises them and shares in their enthusiasm, such as when they complete their chosen activities.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not fully seek the views of parents to build on her effective self- evaluation and further improve her service.  The childminder does not consistently build on her good assessment systems to precisely identify children's next steps in learning, to help children achieve at a higher level.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 strengthen the self-evaluation process, to include parents' ideas and opinions on how to further improve the provision, to develop the service even further  refine the assessment process so that information about what children need to learn next is more precise, sharply focused and used effectively to help children make the best possible progress.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the childminder interacting and playing with the children.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder in relation to observations of children's play, learning and progress.  The inspector took into account the views of parents.  The inspector sampled documentation, including training certificates, policies and procedures, and assessment records.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows the signs and symptoms that may cause concern about a child's welfare and the procedures to follow to report any concerns. The childminder reflects on her practice well overall and has successfully met the actions and recommendations from her last inspection. She has made effective changes to her practice to improve outcomes for children. The childminder continually develops her knowledge and keeps up to date with relevant information to improve her skills. She has good partnerships with parents and carers overall. For example, she shares information about their children's daily activities and ongoing progress with them to provide continuity in meeting children's needs.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder understands how to help children make good progress in their learning. She provides a good range of toys and activities, which appeal to children's interests, ages and stages of development. The childminder encourages children to find out how things work; for example, as they press buttons on a programmable toy. She encourages children's creativity in various ways, such as during their art and craft activities. The childminder develops children's good communication and language skills as she extends the range of words they use. She encourages children's mathematical skills as they learn to recognise colour, number, shape and size.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are happy and confident in the childminder's home and are confident to go to her for comfort and support. The childminder encourages children's social skills well. For example, children enjoy visiting local groups where they meet other children and develop their social skills and confidence. The childminder supports children's awareness of good hygiene and heathy lifestyles well. For instance, she ensures that children follow good hygiene procedures, eat healthily and have daily fresh air and exercise.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children engage well in their learning and persevere when developing new skills. For example, they enjoyed the challenge of balancing the building bricks on the set of wheels and used their creative skills when designing reindeer antlers. Children develop their self- confidence effectively and learn to be independent and to do things for themselves. For example, they help to tidy away toys and begin to learn to dress themselves. They are well prepared for moving on to the next stages in their education.
