This provision is good
Children show that they are happy and settled. They progress well in their learning. They move around the childminder's home with confidence and have fun as they explore activities. The childminder ensures children's needs are met promptly to help support their emotional well-being. The childminder is a good role model for children and she encourages children to share and use good manners. Children's behaviour is good. The childminder evaluates the service she provides and involves parents in this process. She is aware of her strengths and where she can improve to raise practice and achieve good outcomes for children. The childminder has a clear understanding of how children learn and develop. She plans and provides a wide range of activities to help children make good progress.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently obtain detailed information from parents about their children's starting points, to help her plan for their learning more precisely from the start. The childminder does not make the most of all opportunities to help children to do things for themselves to support their independence.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children playing and the quality of teaching, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning in discussion with the childminder. The inspector spoke with the childminder at convenient times during the inspection. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including children's learning journals and the childminder's policies and procedures. The inspector considered the views of parents as part of the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a good understanding of child protection issues and knows what to do if she has a concern about a child in her care. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps up to date with early years practice issues. For example, she meets with other childminders to share good practice. She uses what she learns to improve children's learning; for example, as she creates more opportunities to help them understand that print carries meaning. She carries out regular risk assessments of her home and outings to ensure any potential hazards are minimised.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder regularly observes and monitors children's development. She uses her observations and assessments well to inform planning and help children move forward in their learning. She is aware of how young children learn, regularly encourages them and helps them to decide what they would like to play. Overall, children have opportunities to lead their own play and make regular decisions about where to play and what they would like to play with. The childminder joins in with children's play and extends their learning well. She supports children's mathematical development well. For example, she teaches children positional language as they press buttons to make their electronic toys move, then negotiate space well to manoeuvre a car around a box. The childminder supports children's communication and language development effectively. She expands children's vocabulary by introducing words that relate to their play.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Overall, the childminder works well in partnership with parents and other providers to help support consistency in children's care and learning. Parents are very positive about the childminder and the service she provides. Children learn about the benefits of living healthy lifestyles and being physically active. For example, they enjoy a wide range of opportunities outdoors, such as many walks and visits in the local community. The childminder offers a caring and friendly environment for children. Children express their affection for her as they snuggle up to her when they occasionally require reassurance. Children develop the confidence to mix with larger groups of children and adults; for example, as they go to local toddler groups and socialise with others.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop good skills in readiness for their future learning at pre-school and school. They quickly become absorbed in their play and concentrate for extended periods of time; for example, as they use paint to create their own pictures. Children are imaginative in their role play; for instance, as they pretend to feed dolls and put them to bed.
