This provision is good
The childminder provides children with a spacious and welcoming environment with a good range of toys. Children make their own play choices from a variety of resources. They make good progress in their learning from their starting points. Children are happy and settled. They build positive relationships with the childminder and each other. The childminder monitors childrens progress precisely to quickly identify any gaps in learning. She shares this information with parents and other settings that children attend to help provide consistency of care and learning. The childminder provides children with a safe and healthy environment. For example, children enjoy nutritious snacks and meals. The childminder extends children's knowledge of healthy foods well such as by talking about foods that are good for them during role play. The childminder keeps up to date with new information. For example, she seeks

support from her local early years advisor and completes reading and research.

It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not make the most of all opportunities to extend her skills and knowledge further to help raise the quality of teaching and children's outcomes to a higher level. The childminder does not recognise all opportunities to extend children's knowledge of mathematics.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the children and childminder interacting together. The inspector held discussions with the childminder in relation to observations of the children's play, learning and progress. The inspector looked at a sample of paperwork including evidence of the childminder's suitability, training certificates and children's records. The inspector looked at the childminder's written self-evaluation and considered feedback from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder is very organised and reflects well on the quality of her practice. She is committed to providing high-quality care. For example, she has changed the organisation of the learning environment to provide more ways for children to choose toys independently. She has also developed her outdoor area to give children further opportunities for fresh air and exploration such as growing and planting activities. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps her knowledge of safeguarding matters up to date and understands her responsibility to protect children. She knows the process to follow should she have concerns about their welfare.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder understands how children learn and joins in during play to extend their communication and language skills. For example, she talks to them about their activities at home and in other settings and teaches them new words such as 'decorations' and 'delicious'. Children extend their communication skills further such as through joining in with singing songs. The childminder encourages children's creativity well. For example, she joins in with their pretend play and teaches them the names of colours. The childminder is very attentive and observes children's progress effectively. For example, she notices when they achieve new skills and keeps detailed daily records of their activities.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is very sensitive and caring, and supports the individual needs of children successfully. For example, she works closely with parents to find out about their children's backgrounds and interests, and includes these in her setting. The childminder smiles and laughs with the children during play and helps them to gain good levels of self-esteem. For example, she offers them consistent praise such as saying 'good job' during tidying up. She tells them they are clever when they name animals correctly and shows an interest in their families. The childminder sensitively helps children to manage their toilet routines, offering further praise and encouragement.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress in their learning. Older children confidently ask and answer questions during play and recount previous experiences. Younger children gain an early understanding of the structure of stories and follow simple instructions for example during hand washing and tidying up. Children develop important skills and are prepared well for the next stage in their learning. For example, they take turns and share during play and use good manners at meal times.
