She liaises with other professionals to help keep her knowledge and skills up to date. This has a positive impact on the quality of the provision and the outcomes for all children.  The childminder observes children during play to assess what they already know and can do. She uses this information to plan a stimulating range of activities and experiences that matches children's individual needs. Children are excited and motivated to learn. They make good progress in readiness for school.  The childminder is a good role model and teaches children effectively to take turns and use good manners. development.  Children enjoy healthy and nutritious home-cooked meals. They have regular opportunities to play in the childminder's garden. They learn about the benefits of having healthy lifestyles.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder's strategies for involving parents in their children's learning are not always as successful as possible.  The childminder does not compare the progress children make, in order to make sure that each child receives the best possible support to achieve their full potential.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 develop more effective ways to encourage parents to be involved in their children's learning  compare the progress made by different children and confirm that all of them continue to receive the support they need to increase the potential for them to make the best possible progress.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector viewed all areas of the home used for childminding. She observed activities and reviewed the quality of teaching.  The inspector looked at a range of documentation. She discussed the childminder's self- evaluation.  The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's qualifications and of the suitability of all adults living and working on the premises.  The inspector carried out an evaluation of an activity with the childminder.  The inspector spoke to the childminder, her colleague and the children at appropriate times during the inspection. She took account of the views of parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Since the last inspection, the childminder has made good progress to raise the quality of her provision. She has attended appropriate training and is now qualified to administer first aid in an emergency. The childminder has also reviewed and strengthened her knowledge of assessment processes. This means that she is now able to monitor children's progress effectively and swiftly address any gaps in children's learning and development. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is aware of the signs of abuse and understands the importance of reporting any concerns promptly. She checks for risks in the physical environment and minimises any hazards. She has a good overview of the assistant's practice and ensures that he attends relevant training. This has a positive impact on outcomes for children. Systems for self-evaluation are good. The childminder regularly seeks the views of parents, children and her colleague to improve her provision.

p.3

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

She responds positively to any suggestions that might benefit children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder knows what children can do and what they need to learn next. She offers children exciting and fun activities both indoors and outside. The childminder interacts well with children and she extends their vocabulary by adding new words as they play. Younger children have many opportunities to hear and repeat new words and to develop their speech and language skills. The childminder plays alongside them and responds to what they say. This helps children to develop confidence to share their views. Older children enthusiastically explore and investigate the natural environment. They look for areas in the childminder's garden where the grass is green and where it is white with the frost. Children clearly describe the changes they feel as they walk on the different surfaces. Children learn to handle different tools, such as spades, knives and forks. The childminder skilfully helps children to learn to count and explore quantities.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are warmly welcomed in the nurturing environment where they are valued and their achievements are celebrated. Their artwork is prominently displayed. This helps to develop their self-esteem and boosts their emotional well-being. The childminder gains information from parents about their child's care needs and routines and successfully manages these. This helps children to settle in their new surrounding and to build good relationships with the childminder. Children explore their environment with increased confidence and make independent choices in their play. The childminder provides children with opportunities to learn about the wider world and to develop social skills during regular outings in the community.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are active learners and demonstrate a positive attitude to learning. They behave well and develop strong friendships. Children make their own choices about what they want to do and readily share their ideas and learn to express themselves from an early age. Older children's mathematical skills are good. All children acquire the skills they need for the next stage of their learning or the move on to school.
