This provision is good

 The childminder has a very good attitude towards providing high standards of care. Since her previous inspections she has made several changes to directly improve the quality of practice.  Children are very well settled during their time at the childminder's home. They have formed positive relationships with her.  The childminder supports children's imagination well. They are encouraged to explore their ideas and to use their critical-thinking skills.  The childminder carries out regular observations to assess and evaluate the progress that children are making. She uses this knowledge to provide activities to extend their next steps in learning.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not yet use feedback from parents to further evaluate her practice.  Although teaching is consistently good, the childminder does not always adapt activities to provide all children with highly challenging experiences.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 provide more opportunities for parents to contribute and evaluate provision in order to reflect on their views more effectively  provide highly challenging experiences for all children to help them make progress that is better than good.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector jointly evaluated an activity with the childminder.  The inspector looked at relevant documentation. She discussed children's learning and development and the childminders self-evaluation.  The inspector checked the suitability of the childminder and those living at the property.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder is reflective about her practice. Her form of self-evaluation accurately identifies an action plan for continual improvements. She has recently extended her knowledge of how young children learn, which has improved her teaching skills. The quality of how she carries out assessments has made a large improvement. Children are in a safe and secure environment at all times and the childminder carries out risk assessments to further minimise risks when going on outings. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder follows her Local Safeguarding Children Board procedures and has recently attended relevant training. The childminder supports children who speak English as an additional language, working closely with families. For example, she uses key words and pictures to extend communication.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder demonstrates a good understanding of how to promote young children's learning. During a drawing activity she introduces mathematical concepts, such as shape, colour and size. Children are encouraged to use their imagination. They enjoy making dens and imagining that they are outside building a fire with the sticks. Children are valued as individuals and learn about different cultures and backgrounds. Children engage well and demonstrate good concentration skills. The childminder promotes children's emerging language skills. They enjoy singing and doing actions to a variety of different nursery rhymes, extending their listening and attention skills. Parents are kept up to date with their child's progress.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder offers caring interactions with children. Younger children regularly check in with her when they need reassurance. The childminder promotes positive behaviour, offering meaningful or well-deserved praise to boost children's self-esteem. Children show pride in their achievements. When children achieve a task, they and the childminder celebrate together. The childminder promotes healthy practice. Children go outside on a daily basis to promote a healthy lifestyle. Children demonstrate that they are active learners. They explore equipment, figuring out by themselves how to use certain tools.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are making good progress. Where gaps in children's learning have been identified, they are closing due to the good strategies that the childminder puts in place. Children show good social skills. Children are confident and independent learners and therefore are well equipped for the next stage in their education.
