This provision is good

 The management team works well with parents and other professionals to identify and plan for children's needs. It shares information frequently to provide consistency in children's learning and development.  Staff use training well to enhance children's experiences. For example, they successfully support children to consider risk when building a slide with wooden beams.  Children have a wide range of opportunities to visit places in the community with staff. They develop a good understanding of different occupations and lifestyles.  Children enjoy a good range of physical activities. Staff teach them well about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and the positive effect exercise has on the body.  The management team uses self-evaluation well to improve their provision. This has led t to the use of new notice boards to provide parents and other carers with additional information to support children's learning at home.

p.1

This provision is good

 Staff support children's communication and language well. For example, they help younger children learn songs and older children to make words using lettered pegs.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The management team does not consistently monitor all groups of children to promptly identify and address any gaps in their learning.  Staff do not extend opportunities to better support younger children during adult-led activities.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 monitor the progress of specific groups of children more closely to quickly identify and address any gaps in their learning  maximise learning opportunities for younger children during adult-led activities.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector carried out a joint observation with the manager.  The inspector observed interactions between staff and children.  The inspector spoke to parents about their views on the provision.  The inspector held an interview with the management team.  The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including children's assessment records, staff suitability checks, and a range of policies.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The management team and staff understand and implement the welfare requirements effectively. They are clear about safeguarding procedures to help them keep children safe from harm. The premises are secure and prevent unauthorised persons from entering. Recruitment procedures are strong. The management team monitors children's individual progress effectively, and staff teaching and practice. They recently took part in a pilot scheme, which has improved staff's skills to further support children's communication and language development. They have plans to enhance staff support, to increase their knowledge and practices even further.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children have a good range of resources to motivate and engage them in learning. Staff teach children well and plan activities that keep them interested. For example, younger children enjoy matching objects to pictures and older children sound out letters to make words, helping to support their move to school. Staff provide an interesting range of activities that develop children's curiosity and help them learn about the world around them. For example, children learn how water turns to ice and about Christmas traditions. Staff carry out frequent observations and use these well to plan activities that target children's needs; for example, to help children further develop their attention, understanding and speaking skills during group times. All children enjoy exploring sensory activities, such as cinnamon sticks and glitter dough, helping them learn about different textures and smells.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Staff support children's awareness of safety well. For example, they encourage children to use scissors carefully and talk to them about the risks of slippery ice outside. Staff use strong monitoring systems to ensure the learning environment is safe. Children enjoy plenty of exercise and fresh air, and they use their imaginations well, for example, to fill their bikes with 'petrol'. Children have high self-esteem and feel secure in their surroundings, demonstrating positive behaviour at all times. Staff are enthusiastic and encourage children to be independent learners, praising them at all times for their achievements.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress from their starting points, particularly in their communication and language. Younger children learn about numbers through stories, and older children follow 'plans', for example, to help build a sleigh. All children enjoy music and movement sessions where they count and find shapes, helping to support their mathematical development well.
