 The childminder completes regular and precise observations of children's learning as they play. Using these, she meticulously tracks children's progress. This enables her to quickly identify any gaps in their development, clearly outline the next steps in their learning and sharply focus the planned experiences to meet children's individual learning needs.  Children's independence and self-care skills are exceptionally well supported. Young children are encouraged to try to do things by themselves. For example, they competently find their belongings during care routines, such as nappy changing.  Children thoroughly enjoy their time with the childminder. They have lots of fun as they sing and dance using a variety of music instruments. There is a lively ambiance as they move in time to the rhythm and laugh with each other.  Children experience regular visits to the shops, library and local open spaces. They

She conducted a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector observed activities and care routines. She sampled documents, including policies, procedures and children's records.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder puts children's safety at the heart of everything she does. She has an excellent and up-to-date knowledge of the signs and symptoms of possible abuse. She knows how to keep children safe and what to do should she have any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder collects high- quality information from parents about what children already know and can do before they start attending. Parents are provided with detailed, ongoing information about their children's progress. This collaborative approach further enhances the rate at which children are learning and making progress. The childminder attends local groups where she meets with other childminders. She makes excellent use of this network to continue making links and to share good practice. The childminder is considering further ways to use feedback from other early years professionals to inform her self-evaluation in order to

sustain, and build on, her own outstanding provision for children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder uses her qualification and wealth of experience to best effect. The activities provided for the children are innovative, creative, and precisely focused on supporting their next steps in learning. She demonstrates an infectious enthusiasm when interacting and playing with children. Consequently, they are highly motivated and very eager to join in. Children show excellent levels of confidence as they explore toys in the environment. They use their senses to explore baskets and tubs filled with an array of objects and enjoy posting balls down cardboard tubes. The childminder extends this by encouraging children to match the ball and the coloured pot, placed at the end of the tube. They count the balls and lift the tubes to make the balls go faster. Mathematics is promoted as children talk about colours and numbers. They develop in their language as they learn new words, such as fast and slow.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children are nurtured and they thrive in the exceptionally inviting, safe and comfortable environment. The childminder is kind and attentive. She reassures and encourages children so they soon settle and grow in confidence. The childminder effectively teaches children to understand the procedure to follow in the event of a fire. This helps them to develop an awareness of how to keep themselves safe. She carries out robust risk assessments in all areas of her home and on outings. This helps to ensure that children are protected from possible hazards. The childminder knows the children very well and successfully anticipates when they need food, drink or a rest.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children are making excellent progress in their learning in relation to their starting points. Their communication and language skills are developing exceptionally well. Some of the ways the childminder supports this is when she talks to children as they play and uses effective questioning to encourage them to think for themselves and share their ideas. Children are exceptionally well prepared for their next stage in learning, and their move on to school when the time comes.
