The childminder has clear policies and procedures in place for safeguarding and protecting children, which she implements well in her practice. She has a good awareness of potential signs and symptoms that may indicate a child is at risk, and she knows what to do if she needed to raise any concerns. The childminder regularly reflects on her practice and works closely with her co-childminder such as to enhance her own performance and develop her professional development. For example, she identifies additional training needs and aspects of her practice that needs improving.

She plans the learning environment well to provide a good range and balance of opportunities across all areas of learning. Overall, all children enjoy their play. For example, they take part in various play experiences such as drawing, mark making and creative play, such as art and crafts, playdough and exploring with malleable materials. The childminder regularly observes children to identify their achievements and she tracks their progress closely, to identify any additional learning needs.

p.3

They readily approach the childminder for reassurance and to make their needs known, to which the childminder responds well. The childminder supports children's health well. She provides healthy meals and snacks, which children help to prepare, and she encourages them to follow good hygiene routines such as regularly washing their hands. In addition, the childminder plans regular opportunities for children to engage in physical activity both inside and outdoors, and she provides them with a comfortable place to sleep.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in their learning, taking into account their starting points. They are developing their thinking and speaking skills. For example, they engage in discussions, where they share their ideas and thoughts as they respond to the childminder's questions. They enjoy taking responsibility for small tasks such as tidying away after mealtimes and helping themselves to resources. They effectively develop the skills they need for school and the next stages of their learning.
