The inspector conducted a leadership and management meeting with the childminder. The inspector conducted a joint observation with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder implements very rigorous safeguarding procedures and understands how to protect children's welfare. The childminder identifies excellent training programmes which fully inform and improve her approach to teaching. For example, the childminder has recently learnt how to develop children's interest in music by incorporating it into exploratory play outside. The childminder reflects exceptionally well on her practice and makes changes which really improve children's learning experiences. For example, she has developed a wonderful outdoor area where children can learn and investigate. The childminder plans to improve her setting by developing the range of outdoor experiences even further. The childminder tracks and monitors the progress of individual children and groups. She uses assessment exceptionally well to identify any gaps in children's learning and helps them catch up fast.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
The childminder continually extends and supports children's learning to the full. Her interactions with children are of a fantastic standard. For example, the childminder uses snack time as an opportunity to help children solve simple number problems. Children learn to add and subtract with number place mats and blueberries. The childminder develops exciting educational programmes based on children's needs and interests. For example, children make fairy gardens and the childminder uses the opportunity to explore money with children, write letters, and manipulate new creative materials. The childminder allows children to return to their learning and consolidate their ideas. For example, children make shoe-box cots for dolls and later use them to engage in role play and develop their understanding of being kind and gentle.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
Children are very polite and independent. They sit at the table while they eat and even the youngest children say 'please' and 'thank you'. Children grow their own fruits and vegetables and the childminder is excellent at reminding them about the importance of being fit and healthy. Children have lots of access to a very well-designed and considered outdoor space. They develop brilliant physical skills and get plenty of fresh air. Children have clearly built very firm relationships with the childminder who fully understands the emotional needs of each child in her care.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
Children are very positive and settled while they play, they demonstrate great levels of perseverance and concentration. For example, children spend ages picking sequins up from the floor even though it is a very 'tricky job'. They take responsibility and do not stop until each one is tidied away.
