This provision is good
The manager, overall, successfully monitors the quality of teaching and staff assessments of children's progress. She uses this information to identify and implement further improvements. Most recently they have evaluated mathematics for boys and improved teaching to help all children make good progress. Staff engage well with the children. They ask children questions, comment on what they are doing and demonstrate new skills to help them achieve. Children make good progress in their learning. Staff tailor settling-in arrangements to meet children's needs. Transitions between rooms are carefully planned to support their emotional well-being. Children clearly enjoy their time in the nursery and have formed strong attachments with staff. Partnerships with parents are very good. Information on their child's time at nursery is shared regularly, including at parents' meetings. This helps parents to understand the

It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, staff in the pre-school room downstairs do not provide resources that children have requested that help them be more effectively engaged in their learning. Sometimes, staff in the pre-school room downstairs are not consistent when planning activities that accurately reflect what children need to learn next.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities, indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the nursery manager. The inspector held a meeting with the nursery manager. She looked at relevant documentation, such as the nursery's self-evaluation and evidence of the suitability of staff working in the nursery. The inspector spoke to a small group of parents during the inspection and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The manager completes thorough checks to confirm the suitability of those she employs. She ensures that staff know what steps to take if they have a concern about a child to protect their welfare. Staff are deployed effectively throughout the nursery to ensure children's safety and adult-to-child ratios are maintained. There are robust complaint procedures in place and parents understand what to do should they have a concern about the service. The manager accurately identifies priorities for improvement and successfully makes changes. For example, she has reviewed how the environment was used in the pre-school room upstairs. As a result, staff have reorganised the room to help children thrive and explore with a purpose. The manager provides staff with regular feedback about their teaching and supports their attendance at training. For example, she has worked with other professionals to devise a

programme for speech and language development. Staff have attended training and can now implement the programme with children that need it in the nursery.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The well-qualified staff plan purposeful activities that are, overall, matched well to children's needs. Staff observe and carry out accurate assessments of what children can do. Children are active and motivated learners. Their communication and language skills are promoted very effectively. Staff model the correct pronunciation of words and use lots of repetition. Pre-school children learn how to operate simple computer programs and enjoy making models from recycled materials. Two-year-old children learn to appreciate books. They listen attentively to staff reading and say what they see in the pictures. Staff engage effectively with babies. They sit at their level, make eye contact and talk to them. Babies become familiar with rhymes and they attempt to copy staff as they do the actions.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Staff consistently reinforce rules and help children to resolve minor disputes amicably. This helps children to know what is expected of them and behave well. Children are provided with nutritious meals and mealtimes are happy and social occasions. Staff make good use of these opportunities to teach children about the importance of a healthy diet and good personal hygiene. Children have ample opportunities to play outdoors. This helps to support their physical well-being and good health. There are positive links with children's future schools. Teachers visit the nursery and staff make books with photographs of the school to help children learn about what it will be like.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children, including those in receipt of funding, are well supported to make at least consistently good progress in their learning and development. They develop a range of skills that prepares them for their future learning, including school. Babies and very young children learn to move confidently, to communicate their needs and to enjoy the company of other children and adults. Older children learn how to look after their own personal needs, such as dressing themselves. They show high levels of confidence as they complete age-appropriate tasks independently.
