This provision is good
The childminder actively involves parents in planning for their children's learning. For example, she asks parents to track their children's stage of development when they start and she uses this information, together with her own observations, to identify children's starting points. This effective partnership working helps to build on continuity in children's care and learning. The childminder has a secure knowledge and understanding of child protection procedures and knows how to report any concerns regarding children's welfare. She attends regular training to help keep her knowledge up to date. The childminder is skilled at supporting children's emotional development. She forms secure attachments with children and values their unique ideas. Children settle well and thrive in her care. Children make good progress in relation to their starting points. The childminder uses effective observations and assessments to help identify gaps in children's learning and

puts effective measures in place to close the learning gaps.

It is not yet outstanding because:
On occasions, the childminder does not adapt planned activities as well as possible to suit the ages of all children. At times, the organisation of the play area does not fully support children's learning.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector viewed documentation, including children's learning records, policies and procedures. The inspector discussed with the childminder how she uses self-evaluation to develop her practice. The inspector observed activities and interactions between the childminder and children throughout the inspection. The inspector checked all areas in the premises used for childminding. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder monitors the progress of all children's learning and development well and ensures that children develop the essential skills they need for their next stage of learning. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder monitors children's attendance closely and she can easily identify any children who may be at risk of harm from extreme views or behaviour. The childminder supervises children's play well and takes action to manage and eliminate risks inside and outside to help them play in safe learning environments. Her self-evaluation is effective. She gains the views of other professionals and parents to help identify areas of her provision where improvements can be made.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides activities and resources that are exciting and challenge children's learning further. For example, during a pasta play activity, some children enjoyed filling containers and emptying them, while others attempted to thread the pasta. The childminder aroused children's curiosity further by adding shaving foam to the pasta. Opportunities for children to explore and investigate are good. For example, children can choose from extensive role play resources and the childminder supports them to act out new and familiar situations. Babies crawl around confidently and explore toys to find out how they work. The childminder encourages children's communication and language development well. For instance, she comments on what children are doing all the time and repeats words to support younger children's emerging language.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides children with a safe and welcoming environment. Children are fully aware of routines and the childminder encourages their independence. For example, young children eagerly tidy up after activities and some learn to use the dustpan and brush to collect their rubbish. Children enjoy a variety of healthy fruits and vegetables for snack. They also have daily opportunities for fresh air and exercise, including the use of the childminder's garden and trips to playgroups. All these help to successfully support children's physical well-being.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children behave well and form good relationships with others. For example, they share toys and pass objects to each other when playing together. In addition, they sit and wait patiently while the childminder prepares their snack. Younger children are developing good communication and language skills. For example, babies babble and toddlers begin to put words together. Children develop an interest in reading at an early age. They enjoy looking at books independently and turning pages. Children are well prepared for future learning, including starting school.
