This provision is good
The childminder is skilful at identifying children's interests and individual needs and providing activities to support what children need to learn next based on these. For example, she provides a stimulating environment where resources are of a high standard and quality. Children make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder is caring, kind and thoughtful. Children are well behaved and happy in her care. They show great kindness and affection towards others and form close friendships. The childminder establishes effective partnerships with other settings where children attend. This helps her successfully complement children's care and learning The childminder regularly develops her skills and knowledge to improve outcomes for children. For example, she reads relevant documents, carries out research and attends training.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not make the best use of opportunities for children to engage in sensory play opportunities as part of their expressive arts and design development. The childminder does not successfully obtain detailed information from parents about their children's learning and achievements at home, to help her build on their experiences and the planning process.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector observed the childminder's interactions with the children. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including policies and procedures, and children's records. The inspector conducted a tour of the premises that the childminder uses for childminding purposes. The inspector viewed and took into account written feedback from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps her knowledge of local safeguarding procedures updated. She knows the signs that would cause her concern about a child's welfare and the procedures to follow. The childminder provides a safe environment and carries out thorough risk assessments to help minimise potential hazards. This helps keep children safe from harm. She drives improvement by regularly evaluating her practice. She seeks the views of the parents to help her to improve outcomes for children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children have good opportunities to develop an understanding of the world. For example, they learn about how fruits and vegetables grow as they plant and tend to them in the childminder's garden. Children's creativity is also supported well. For instance, children enjoy exploring musical instruments as they experiment with sound. The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn. She provides a range of stimulating activities to help build on children's existing skills and interests. The childminder carries out regular observations and closely monitors children's progress. This helps her to quickly identify and address any gaps in their learning. She shares information about children's progress with parents to encourage them to extend the learning at home.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a stimulating and welcoming environment. She offers daily opportunities for children to be physically active, such as by using her garden and visiting a range of parks and community groups. The childminder helps children to learn about various people and communities. For instance, during Chinese New Year, children visited local shops to try various foods from China. They also made Olympic torches and flags for a number of countries during the Paralympics. These activities support children to respect and value each other's cultures and their own differences. The childminder encourages children to build confidence in their own abilities, such as providing them with positive praise and encouragement. Children have good opportunities to learn to keep themselves safe. For example, the childminder practises regular emergency procedures with them and develops their knowledge of 'stranger danger' during outings.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop useful skills that prepare them well for their next steps in learning and eventual move to school. They make good progress and develop their communication and language skills well. For example, younger children excitedly babble and repeat words said by the childminder. They also learn early mathematics. For example, they enjoy completing puzzles and other activities that help them learn about shape, size, matching and sorting. Children are sociable, inquisitive and independent learners.
