Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of her responsibility to safeguard children and the procedures to follow if she has concerns for a child's welfare. The childminder keeps her knowledge and skills up to date. For example, she gains information from the local authority and completes her own research. The childminder monitors the quality of the provision well to help her build on children's play opportunities. For instance, she evaluates activities to see if they meet children's needs and whether children enjoy them, to build on their experiences well overall.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder plans a wide range of activities that children enjoy. She plans the environment well and children make independent choices in their play. The childminder is skilled at standing back to let children lead their play but also knows when children need support and guidance to take their play further. For example, she supports children to think about how they can build a ramp for their cars. Children are keen to play together and younger children learn from older ones as they watch and copy what they see the older children doing. The childminder provides good opportunities for children to have outdoor play and exercise. For example, children visit parks, play in the childminder's garden and walk to and from school daily. The childminder forms positive relationships with parents. For example, she holds daily discussions with parents, to provide them with a good range of information about their children's time at the setting.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder supports children to behave well. For example, she helps them to think about being kind and respectful to each other and children take turns and share willingly. The childminder encourages children to take care of their surroundings. For example, she helps as children tidy away toys after using them. The childminder praises children well for their achievements and children show good levels of self-esteem. She uses a variety of strategies to help children develop a positive awareness of themselves and to share their feelings. The childminder places a strong focus on children's safety. For instance, she discusses road safety with them when they go on outings.
