This provision is good
The childminder ensures effective relationships are maintained with parents and those working in other settings that children attend. She keeps them informed of children's progress and learning. The quality of teaching is good. The childminder takes into account children's interests when planning activities which motivate children to play and develop their ongoing skills. Children are learning about the importance of keeping themselves safe and the childminder provides them with good support and guidance. Children's artwork is displayed in her home, which helps children to feel special and valued, promoting their self-esteem and confidence. Children are well behaved and the childminder is a good role model to them. They learn how to share, take turns and use good manners.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not provide enough opportunities to support young children's understanding of colour, shape and size. The childminder does not regularly involve all parents in evaluating the service provided.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

make even better use of planned activities to help build on young children's understanding and knowledge of colour, shape and size provide all parents with consistent opportunities to contribute their views to self- evaluation and use these to help drive forward improvements.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector looked at children's records, observation and assessment files and a selection of policies. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children throughout the inspection. The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's qualification and the suitability of all adults living in the home. The inspector observed activities and evaluated these jointly with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder understands her responsibility in keeping children safe. She is fully aware of the signs of abuse and understands the importance of reporting any concerns. The childminder has continued to reflect on her provision. Recommendations raised at the previous inspection have been addressed and have improved the outcomes for children. For example, children are supported well to complete tasks for themselves and make their own independent choices. The childminder engages with other local childminders to share good practice and keep her knowledge up to date. Partnership with parents is effective and she keeps them informed on a daily basis through discussion, in addition to completing written observations.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows children well and provides activities that interest them. For example, she knows children are fascinated by dinosaurs and plans craft activities using dinosaur shapes, to engage and extend their interest further. These activities challenge children and help them to remain enthusiastic about learning new skills. The childminder helps children to develop their communication and language skills effectively. For example, she shares favourite books with them and talks with them about the various characters displayed. Children proudly display their drawing of the bear, while recalling a favourite story. The childminder listens carefully to children and repeats words and phrases back to them providing ongoing support to their conversational skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides children with opportunities to learn about their local and wider community. For example, she takes children to community groups where they learn how to socialise, make friends and learn about other people. Children's behaviour is good. They demonstrate through their behaviour that they feel emotionally secure with the childminder. For example, they happily climb onto her knee and cuddle into her, while reading books. She offers praise and encouragement consistently, which helps to boost children's self-esteem. Therefore, children are becoming confident to express themselves and have a go for themselves. For example, children independently and confidently dress themselves in the super hero costumes. Children know to tidy away toys to ensure safe clear floor space and regularly practise fire evacuation procedures. This helps them to understand the importance of keeping themselves safe.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children are making good progress from their initial starting points. They are happy, confident and motivated to learn. They communicate well and acquire good skills to support their move on to school. Meeting with other children provides them with good opportunities to learn how to cooperate and consider the feelings and views of others. They learn the importance of good health and they enjoy freshly prepared meals. They have plenty of opportunities to play outdoors, obtaining lots of fresh air and exercise.
