This provision is good

 The childminder regularly observes children and knows them very well. She uses her ongoing assessments and knowledge of children's interests and needs well, to plan a stimulating range of purposeful activities. All children make good progress.  The childminder supports children's well-being effectively. She helps children settle quickly and provides good support so they are confident and happy, and develop strong attachments to her.  Children behave very well and learn about acceptable behaviour and manners. They develop necessary social skills and learn to treat others with respect.  The childminder regularly reflects well on her provision in order to provide better outcomes for children. She listens to the parents and their children to improve and implement their ideas.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not extend opportunities for children to experiment with various writing and drawing tools to practise their early writing skills.  The childminder does not involve parents in helping children to increase their understanding of the importance of eating fruit and vegetables, as part of their healthy lifestyles.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 provide more opportunities for children to explore and experiment with various drawing and writing equipment when practising their early writing skills  build on partnerships with parents to increase children's understanding of the importance of a healthy diet.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities and the childminder's interaction with children throughout the inspection.  The inspector sampled children's observation, planning and assessment documents, and looked at the registration records.  The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's suitability to work with children and sampled her policies and procedures.  The inspector held conversations with the childminder and children.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge and understanding of child protection issues and the procedure to follow if she has any concerns about the safety or welfare of children in her care. She develops her skills well through various ways and uses new knowledge or ideas to improve her teaching practice and provide more exciting activities. The childminder has worked hard to effectively address all the previous inspection recommendations and has expanded many learning opportunities for children. Parents are pleased with the care of their children, the childminder's flexibility to meet their needs and how well their children progress.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder knows how children learn and develop. She supports children effectively to gain good early communication and language skills. For example, she describes textures, sings songs with children, uses repetitive language and provides a commentary for what children do and see. Young children develop an early interest in books. For example, they bring favourite books to the childminder to read, and enjoy listening and sharing together. The childminder ensures children have access to a wide range of resources. She motivates them with lots of encouragement and praise to boost their self- esteem. Children develop a strong sense of achievement and concentrate well.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are very happy and confident in childminder's care. She provides lots of cuddles and enjoyable activities to help younger children feel safe and happy. The childminder offers opportunities for children to learn at their own pace and allows as much time as they need to practise to complete the task. Children become increasingly more aware of their own needs such as requesting drinks and knowing where to find them. They follow good hygiene routines. The childminder ensures children have enough exercise inside and outside and that they are active throughout the day.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are successful learners and develop the skills they need for their future learning and eventual move to school. They remain engaged for good periods of time on activities that interest them. The childminder skilfully introduces early mathematical language, even with the youngest children. For example, they learn colours and shapes when playing with simple puzzles. Children enjoy activities and resources available and are keen to take part and discover. For example, they explore various technology toys and gain an early understanding of how things work.
