This provision is good
The childminder has addressed the areas of her practice, which required improvement at her last inspection. She carries out progress checks for children aged between two and three years, and shares a written summary of their development with their parents. She has updated her paediatric first-aid qualification. Parents appreciate the role the childminder plays in caring for their children. They feel that they are kept well informed about their children's learning including how they can support this at home. Children make good progress in relation to their starting points; this includes children with special educational needs or disability. Children are happy and settled. They develop warm relationships with the childminder, which helps them to feel safe and secure in her care.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
At times, the childminder does not give children enough time to explore their own ideas and develop their own strategies for doing things, before intervening to help them. The childminder is still in the process of maximising opportunities to enhance her teaching practice to a higher level.

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector looked around the areas of the childminder's home which are used for childminding. The inspector observed a range of routines and activities, and spoke to the childminder about the quality of teaching and learning. The inspector spoke to the children and assessed their experiences within the setting. The inspector looked at written feedback from parents to find out about their views on the service provided. The inspector looked at a sample of the childminder's documents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of her role and responsibility to support children's well-being and keep them safe from harm. She reflects upon the different aspects of her provision and takes into account the views of parents, when making improvements. For example, she worked with parents to devise menus for children, to ensure that these meet with their dietary requirements. In general, the childminder finds out about new issues in childcare, to revise her knowledge. For example, she has recently updated her first-aid training, to safeguard children's welfare more effectively. The childminder supports and supervises her assistant well, to help him identify what he does well and where he can enhance his practice further.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides a good range of activities to support children's learning, based upon their current interests. For example, she had incorporated dinosaurs into her planning for story time, counting and playdough activities, in response to children's fascination with the creatures. The childminder effectively monitors children's development to ensure that they are making good progress and to identify what they need to learn next. She works effectively alongside parents and other professionals where children need additional support, to help them achieve all that they can. The childminder supports children's counting skills well. For example, she encourages them to count the number of jumps and claps, while joining in with action songs and rhymes.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is a good role model, who manages children's behaviour in a calm and consistent way. She encourages them to be kind to each other, and to share the toys and resources. She uses plenty of praise to boost their confidence and self-esteem. Children generally behave well. The childminder supports children to be healthy and active. For example, they enjoy ball games in the childminder's garden, and move around in response to songs and rhymes indoors. Children of different ages interact and play happily together. They independently explore their environment and choose the resources that they need to support their play. For example, children used a bucket and building blocks as props as they pretended to go shopping together.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop a range of skills to support the next stages in their development including being ready for school. For example, they develop an interest in books, which supports their early literacy skills. Children learn how to manage their personal care needs independently, for example older children recognise the need to wash their hands when they come in from the garden and before meals.
