This provision is good
Children are secure, happy and motivated to learn. The childminder knows the children well and they form strong emotional bonds with her. The childminder effectively observes, assesses and plans for children's continuous development. She supports each child well to extend their learning and help them make good progress. The childminder is committed to providing a good-quality service for children and their families. For example, she keeps up to date with new developments in childcare and meets with other childminders to share good practice. The childminder establishes a good partnership with parents. They are kept well informed about their child's learning and development. Parents' comments indicate they are very happy with the childminder's service. The childminder understands the importance of working together with other settings children may attend to provide consistency in their learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder misses some opportunities to encourage children's interest in sensory play experiences. At times, the childminder does not support young children to develop their mathematical understanding of numbers and counting effectively.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder and the children, and spoke with the childminder about children's learning. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection regarding her practice and the arrangements for observation, assessment and planning. The inspector checked the documentation the childminder uses to support her practices. The inspector discussed and read the self-evaluation document and discussed an observation of the children playing.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps her knowledge of child protection matters up to date so she knows what to do if she is concerned about a child's welfare. The childminder regularly evaluates her practice and this has aided improvements since registration. For example, she sought guidance on how to complete observations. She now has a good knowledge of how to use these to support children's development and plan for their next steps in learning. The childminder maintains a homely, secure and safe environment for children. She carries out thorough risk assessments that enable her to identify and minimise risks effectively. The childminder implements a range of policies and procedures to underpin her work successfully. For example, she has a clear understanding of how to address any complaints, should they arise.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder interacts well with children and provides some interesting learning experiences. Toddlers show curiosity as they explore the activities. For example, they discover chalks and boards, and then make marks with enthusiasm. The childminder supports the children's learning effectively, for example she shows them how to draw circles and write their name. The childminder supports children's early literacy interests well. They show a great love of books and she successfully builds on this. For example, she uses many interesting props alongside the books, capturing children's imagination.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children thrive in the childminder's friendly and welcoming environment. The childminder supports children to develop a good understanding of a healthy lifestyle. For example, they benefit from daily outings, enabling them to be active and develop their physical skills. The childminder supports children's social skills, for example, as she takes them to different groups to play with others. The childminder models kindness and respect, and teaches children about using good manners. She helps children understand what is expected of them and builds their self-esteem and confidence.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are motivated and enthusiastic learners who make good progress in their development. They have good levels of concentration that enable them to complete tasks well, for example they happily spend time looking at books. Children behave extremely well and enjoy all of the activities available to them. The childminder prepares children well for the next stages in their learning.
