The inspector and the childminder evaluated the effectiveness of an activity together. The inspector discussed the children's development with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands how to implement her safeguarding and welfare policies. She has a good awareness of child protection issues and knows how to protect and safeguard children at all times. The childminder regularly monitors and evaluates all aspects of her provision. She reviews the progress that all children make and quickly identifies and addresses any gaps in learning. Assessment information is used to plan for what children need to learn next. The childminder makes effective use of information parents share. This contributes to the good progress that children make.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder makes good use of her qualification and experience, and children benefit from her targeted guidance and support. Children who are learning English as an additional language particularly benefit from rich language experiences that enhance their understanding and encourage their engagement in play. For example, the childminder adeptly uses rhyme to help children tune into the sounds of new words. She supports children to listen carefully to stories, respond readily to questions and talk about the characters, and to make predications. The childminder encourages children's imagination such as through role play. Children enjoy dressing up in colourful costumes. They demonstrate their mathematical knowledge as they match shapes and identify colours correctly.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder is a positive role model who encourages courtesy and respect. She places an excellent emphasis on supporting children's self-confidence and self-esteem. Children develop an extremely good understanding of their own, and others', beliefs and feelings. They are very well-mannered and behave impeccably for their young age. The childminder places the highest priority on children's well-being and focuses superbly on ensuring their individual needs are met. Effective hygiene routines are in place and children learn about the benefits of adopting a healthy lifestyle. They develop the highest level of independence and learn to persevere and do things for themselves.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children, including those who speak English as an additional language, make consistently good progress. They are motivated to learn new things and confidently initiate their own play. Children concentrate for sustained periods of time and quickly grow in confidence. They develop early literacy skills as they read favourite stories. Children are prepared well with the skills they will need for school when the time comes.
