p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

The childminder is highly qualified, extremely professional and well organised in everything she does. She undertakes ongoing and well-targeted training and has achieved early years professional status since her last inspection. She uses this superior level of knowledge to expertly tailor the best care and learning experiences for children. The childminder provides excellent support for children as they move to local schools. She has plans to tailor her teaching of letters and the sounds they represent more precisely, in line with the specific curriculum children will follow in Reception class. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder prioritises children's well-being and ensures she is always up to date with the latest guidance to help keep children safe.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder has an extremely good understanding of how children learn through play. The research she has done into the different ways that children learn means that she is able to plan highly focused activities based on their individual needs. For example, when toddlers show a particular fascination for filling and emptying, she accommodates this preference in her planned activities. Speaking and listening skills are developed exceptionally well. Children enjoy high-quality activities which encourage them to think, question and problem solve. The childminder provides age-appropriate narratives, including simple sign language to increase their developing communication skills.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children are extremely happy and settled in the childminder's calm and welcoming home. The childminder helps children to gain an understanding of both their local community and the wider world. She takes them on visits to local care homes where they sing to and interact with elderly residents. Children begin to realise that other children are not as fortunate as themselves as the childminder encourages them to make up gift boxes to send to children who are growing up in poverty. Children learn about the natural world as they help plant and care for plants in the garden. The childminder helps children extend their learning further by using the plants to add fragrance to the dough they play with. Children's health is very well promoted. They frequently play outside and enjoy an excellent choice of fruit snacks. Children's behaviour and manners are impeccable.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children make excellent progress in relation to their starting points and are achieving beyond the typical range of development for their age. Children as young as two years old are able to recognise and express different feelings. Children show high levels of independence and self-esteem. They put their own coats and boots on before outdoor play and readily tidy away toys and resources. Older children are continually finding new ways to do things and to solve problems during their play. They listen and follow instructions, take turns and share with other children. Children are extremely motivated and demonstrate a real thirst for learning. They make an exceptional start to their education and, as a result, they are very well prepared for the next stage in their learning, such as starting school.
