This provision is good
The childminder has successfully made improvements since her last inspection, to meet children's welfare and learning needs. She regularly reflects on her work and makes changes that improve her practice and outcomes for children. Children build strong relationships with the childminder and her assistants. They enjoy their time with the childminder and benefit from the warm and welcoming environment she provides. The childminder supports their emotional well-being effectively. Children gain good independent skills. The childminder encourages them to attempt some age-appropriate tasks, which children enjoy doing. They gain skills that prepare them well for their next stage in learning, such as school. The childminder plans activities that build on what children know and can do and she monitors the progress they make closely. All children make good progress from their starting points.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder misses some opportunities to encourage children to recognise written letters and their corresponding sounds to help build on children's early reading skills. The childminder has not considered how to support parents to extend their children's next steps in learning at home.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to the childminder, one of her assistants, and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector viewed the areas of the childminder's setting that children use. The inspector took account of parents' written views, provided on the day of the inspection. The inspector observed the quality of teaching and children's learning. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability checks of the childminder and her assistants, looked at a selection of children's records and safeguarding procedures, and discussed the childminder's self-evaluation process.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder provides a safe and secure environment for children to play and learn. Since her last inspection, the childminder has reviewed how she gains written permission from parents before administering medication. Furthermore, she has made improvements to the organisation of her setting and how she plans activities that build on children's learning needs. The childminder monitors her assistants' teaching skills effectively. For instance, she supports their continuous professional development by providing ongoing training that builds on their knowledge and skills. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistants follow rigorous policies and procedures and know what action they would take if they had concerns about a child to protect their welfare.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans activities that motivate children's play and extend their learning well. She uses good opportunities to build on children's thinking skills. For instance, while children enjoyed mixing paints and experimenting with mixing colours she asked them to think about what might happen when they added green and red together. The childminder supports children's mathematical development well. For example, she helps them learn how to count some objects confidently and about positional language, such as 'under', 'over' and 'behind'. The childminder places a strong focus on helping children develop their communication skills. For instance, she models sounds of words and builds on children's vocabulary by introducing new words when describing their play.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder teaches children about how to keep themselves healthy, which helps to contribute to their physical well-being. For example, she teaches children about why they need to wash their hands before they eat. She makes regular assessments of risks within her setting and minimises any potential hazards to children quickly. The childminder offers children warm praise, for instance, when they help to wash up their plates after snack time, and when they tidy away toys. Children benefit from a wide variety of opportunities to develop their physical skills. For example, they visit local attractions, toddler groups, and parks to benefit from energetic play, fresh air and exercise.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children, including those who the childminder receives additional funding for, make good progress from their starting points. They gain good social skills and learn how to value and respect the needs of others. Children gain skills that prepare them well for their next stage in learning. For example, they concentrate well and persevere at tasks. They learn how to take turns when playing games and enjoy the company of their friends.
