This provision is good
The childminder has a positive, professional attitude towards improving her service. She regularly evaluates the effectiveness of her practice. She researches and introduces new strategies and teaching skills linked to individual children's learning and care needs. Children are extremely well behaved. They use good manners and show care and compassion towards each other. Children's communication and language development are supported well. They listen carefully to the childminder's effective questions. This helps to supports children's thinking and responses through words, gestures and expressions. Children's learning is carefully and effectively planned. The childminder uses information gained from parents and other carers to provide challenges and experiences, both indoors and outdoors, to support their all-round development. The partnership with parents is strong. Parents make positive comments through

questionnaires and references. The childminder uses these comments to make further improvements and to share with prospective parents.

It is not yet outstanding because:
On some occasions, the childminder completes simple tasks for the children which they are capable of doing for themselves. The childminder does not always extend children's understanding of other people's backgrounds and beliefs.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector held a meeting with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation, such as the self-evaluation and evidence of the suitability of members of the childminder's family. The inspector took account of the views of parents from their written comments and testimonials.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of the procedures to follow if she has a concern about a child in her care. The well-qualified childminder shows a strong commitment to continually improving her service for children and their families. She uses information from other professionals, children and parents to make changes to her practice. She regularly assesses how these changes provide better outcomes for children. Children play in a safe and secure environment. The childminder helps children learn how to keep themselves safe through their daily routine and clear explanations.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder effectively assesses and tracks children's progress in all areas of learning. She gains information about their starting points from their first day and provides a summary of their progress for when they move on to their next learning environment. The childminder knows the children extremely well. She uses her knowledge of their preferred styles of learning, interests and past experiences to plan for their next steps in their learning. The childminder uses her expertise to provide an individual programme for every child. For example, children who demonstrate patterns of actions, such as lining toy cars up in sizes, are encouraged to use these vehicles to develop mathematical concepts of size and position.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children learn about healthy lifestyles throughout their day. They sing the handwashing song as they find their own towel. They enjoy healthy foods at meal and snack times and regularly play outside to gain fresh air. Children learn to cooperate and negotiate in their play. The childminder takes children to group activities within the community to help support their social skills. Children develop high levels of self-esteem and confidence. The childminder promotes this effectively through persuasion and sensitive support. Children confidently explore the space around them. Their emotional well-being is promoted well. In the main, children are developing skills, such as finding their own drinks and putting on shoes and coats. These physical skills help children in readiness for school.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are making good progress. They happily explore and experiment with technology and use problem-solving skills to discover cause and effect. For example, young children work out how to move beads from one side of a puzzle box to the other. They use precise movements to control the beads and move them to the position where they will fall to the other side. Children use mathematical language to show their understanding of more and less. They use natural materials such as leaves, conkers and acorns, as they learn about volume. They fill bottles with the items, counting them, calculating one more and emptying it again. The childminder identifies gaps in children's learning and works with other professionals to provide learning opportunities to close these gaps.
