This provision is good
Children receive an appropriate level of support from the childminder and make good progress in their development. She offers a range of activities and experiences and motivates and engages children in their learning. The childminder is warm and friendly with the children and they all enjoy playing together. She knows them well and is attentive to their individual needs. Children settle in quickly and develop secure emotional bonds with the childminder. Children's emotional and physical welfare is supported well. The childminder carries out daily risk assessments to help keep her home secure and support children to play in a safe environment. The childminder uses effective strategies to help children grow in confidence and develop good self-esteem. The childminder is skilled at supporting children's developing communication and language skills. For example, her questions encourage children to think and respond.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently encourage opportunities for children to practise their early drawing and writing skills. The childminder does not fully encourage all parents to contribute information about their children's achievements at home, to help provide a more precise picture of where children are in their learning.

Inspection activities
The inspector looked at areas of the premises that are used for childminding and observed children engaged in various play activities. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, for example, children's records, and policies and procedures. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector discussed the childminder's self-evaluation process with her.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has recently completed safeguarding training. She understands the procedures to follow should she have any concerns about children's safety, welfare and well-being. The childminder is also aware of how to identify any risks from extreme behaviours and views. She regularly reviews the progress children are making and identifies and addresses any gaps in their learning and development. Parents' testimonials state that they are very happy with the care and learning opportunities provided by the childminder. She knows that working in partnership with other professionals, such as staff at other settings, is also very important in ensuring continuity of care. The childminder regularly updates her knowledge using different methods; for example, by networking with other childminders and completing online training programmes.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good knowledge and understanding of how children learn. She makes sure she finds out what children can do when they start with her. Good attention is given to children's speaking and listening skills. For example, children learn new words as they complete jigsaw puzzles and participate in story time. The childminder teaches them how to listen to the first letters of sounds and match these to objects they know. She helps them increase their mathematical understanding as they have fun playing; for example, counting, naming numbers and shapes. Resources such as small world figures, baby dolls and play food help children act out familiar scenarios. The childminder follows children's interests and generally allows them to lead their own play.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is kind and caring. She shows a good understanding of children's physical and emotional needs and meets these well. For instance, if children show they are tired she comforts them and sees if they need to rest. The childminder encourages parents to supply a range of healthy snacks for their children. She encourages outdoor play and children use the garden and visit local parks daily. They benefit from active play and fresh air. Children are settled and behave very well. They listen to the childminder and know what is expected of them.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are active, motivated and keen learners. They are learning to listen to others and follow simple instructions. For example they show determination and concentration as they complete puzzles. They keep busy and occupy themselves with things that interest them. Children make good progress from their starting points and are well prepared for their future learning, such as in readiness for school.
