This provision is good
The childminder teaches children well. She adapts activities in response to their needs and follows their interests. Children learn new skills and knowledge and are developing a positive approach to learning. Children make good progress from their starting points. Children enjoy a wide variety of interesting and stimulating activities in the childminder's home. She also takes children to visit places of interest to support their learning further. Children are increasingly confident when speaking. The childminder supports children's growing language abilities well, particularly those who are learning English as an additional language. For example, she encourages children to use their home language, alongside teaching them how to communicate in English. Children are confident, happy and settled in the childminder's care. Their strong bond with the childminder supports their emotional and physical well-being effectively.
p.1
This provision is good
The childminder reflects well on her practice and seeks feedback from parents and children to continually improve the service she provides.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
At times, the childminder does not assess children's achievements closely enough to identify what they may need to learn next to ensure they reach their full potential. The childminder's approach to gathering ongoing information from parents about their children's achievements and learning at home is not consistently effective.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector jointly observed and discussed the teaching and learning activities provided with the childminder. The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including children's development records, policies and procedures, self-evaluation and the suitability checks of the childminder and adult members of the household. The inspector accompanied the childminder taking the children for a walk.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding about what to do if she has any cause for concern about a child's welfare. She completes thorough risk assessments for her premises and for outings. The childminder forms good links with other settings that children attend. They work well together and provide consistency and continuity in children's care and learning. The childminder uses her observations of children's development to identify any gaps in their progress. She has established regular contact with other childminders. This enables her to further her knowledge and skills and identify any training to help support children's specific needs. The childminder has good relationships with parents. For example, she talks to them about their children's day and gives them feedback from the teachers at school.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how to support children's learning through play. For example, during a craft activity, the childminder talks to the children about different shapes, sizes and counting in sequence. Children receive praise and encouragement to keep on trying, helping to build their confidence and self-esteem. The childminder interacts well with children and uses every opportunity to introduce new words to extend their growing vocabulary. For example, while reading a story, children talk excitedly and imaginatively about the characters and what will happen next. This helps to build on their communication and language skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy and secure. The childminder is a positive role model for the children and they respond well to her. They behave well and learn boundaries from the clear guidance she offers. Children develop independence as they do things for themselves. For example, they are able to find which toys they would like to play with. The childminder helps children to be physically active each day, for example, through regular walks in the community and daily exercise. They enjoy nutritious meals and snacks to support their good health. Children learn about diversity in different ways, such as through celebrating a variety of cultural festivals.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are motivated to learn. All children acquire good levels of communication skills and speak well for their age and ability. Children develop early reading skills and a real interest in books. They are enthusiastic learners who concentrate for long periods. Children are emotionally secure and learn a range of skills that prepare them well for the move to nursery or school.
