This provision is good
The well-qualified childminder extends her professional development and keeps up to date with changes in legislation. She researches activities on the internet, which helps her to provide good quality childcare for children. Teachers visit children in the childminder's home and information is shared regarding children's stages of development. This supports continuity in children's care and learning as they prepare to move on to school. The childminder plans a range of challenging experiences for children based on assessments of their individual needs and interests. Children are enthusiastic to engage in activities and display good listening skills. The childminder has clear expectations of children's behaviour. Children behave well and know what is expected of them. They learn good manners and how to respect each other. Children of all ages play well together. The childminder makes sure that she finds out about children's care and learning needs

when they first start. She gets to know children well and helps them to form strong attachments.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not give parents of younger children the full support they need to guide their children's learning at home and to complement the learning taking place in the setting. The childminder does not make good enough use of the outdoor environment for those children who prefer to play and learn outdoors.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector spoke to the childminder and her assistant at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's policies and procedures and training certificates. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of the childminder, her assistant and adult members of the household. The inspector took account of comments made by parents and the local school about the quality of the provision.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder regularly evaluates her practice. She gathers feedback from everyone involved in her setting and uses her findings to improve the care and learning that children receive. The childminder monitors her assistant's practice by working alongside her. She discusses how to support children's learning and identifies professional development opportunities to extend her knowledge of how to keep children safe. The childminder monitors the progress children make and uses this information, as well as additional funding, to help close any gaps in learning. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder's home is secure and measures are in place to ensure that only suitable people collect children at the end of the day. She has attended child protection training and knows where to report any concerns she has regarding children's safety and welfare. She is aware of how to prevent children being drawn into situations which put them at
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses observations and assessments effectively to plan what children need to learn next. Her home is very inviting and provides children with a good range of resources that they can access independently. Children know where toys are kept because they are in clearly labelled boxes. They listen well and follow instructions. The childminder praises children's achievements, which raises their self-esteem. Children develop their mathematical skills. Toddlers copy older children and attempt to complete jigsaw puzzles. They are confident in their abilities and say, 'I did it'. The childminder and her assistant sing counting rhymes with children and older children confidently learn to count and take away. Older children are well prepared for their move on to school. Parents comment positively about the setting and say that their children are happy and safe.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Settling-in sessions are effective in helping children to get to know the childminder, her co-childminder and her assistant. Children readily accept affection from them. This shows that they have formed strong emotional bonds and feel comfortable in the childminder's home. Children enjoy a good range of healthy snacks and drinks. The childminder promotes good hygiene practice and encourages children to wash their hands independently before eating. Children are given good opportunities for physical exercise. They join in actions to nursery rhymes and move confidently from sitting to standing.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children, including those in receipt of funding, make good progress in their learning. Children are respectful of the environment as they help to tidy away toys before mealtimes. They learn to share, take turns and play cooperatively with their peers. They are confident to speak about their needs and wishes and know that their voice is heard.
