This provision is good
The childminder has worked tenaciously to address the weaknesses identified at the previous inspection. She has successfully developed new ways of identifying children's prior learning and initial starting points. This now enables her to support children's progress from the very beginning. Relationships with parents are strong and they frequently contribute to children's learning activities. The introduction of a communication book has encouraged parents to more readily exchange information about children's care routines and their progress at home. The childminder has reviewed her teaching methods and the activities she provides for children. She now provides activities that support children's next steps in learning and offer them interest and challenge. Children are making good progress in their development. Activities give children a chance to think for themselves and explore technology in their

play. Children look at images of their favourite characters on the tablet computer and then draw them. The assistant talks about shape and colour as they draw, helping to encourage their understanding of mathematical language and concepts. The childminder and her assistant are kind and caring and children develop strong bonds with them and with each other. The childminder and assistant offer children praise and effectively boost their self-esteem.

It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always extend her otherwise good teaching about respecting others, to include respect for herself. Occasionally, children take her things and refuse to return them when she asks for them politely.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

enhance ways of teaching children about positive behaviour and respect for others.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector discussed a planned activity with the childminder. The inspector held discussions with the childminder, children and her assistant at suitable times. She looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self- evaluation and evidence of the suitability of the childminder, assistant and household members. The inspector read and took account of the written feedback provided by parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has undertaken audits of her work. She has worked with her local authority development worker and has successfully enhanced her knowledge and taken advice about how to improve the quality of her provision for children. The childminder and her assistant work together effectively as a team. Supervision discussions have identified ways for the assistant to improve her practice. Currently, the childminder is supporting the assistant in completing a formal childcare qualification. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Both the childminder and her assistant have an in-depth awareness of child protection issues. They are alert to possible signs and symptoms that might suggest children are at risk of harm. The childminder draws on her extensive previous experience of working with children and families to help her to provide a safe environment for children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder and assistant observe children and assess their development. The childminder uses a reliable way to track children's progress and to check their development against expectations for their age. Children enjoy expressing their ideas through role play. They play with superhero figures and become deeply involved in this. They adopt different voices for each character and give a commentary to the stories they create. Children pretend to make dinner and suggest different meals for the childminder and assistant to eat.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder supports children to learn about their own identity and to recognise the value of diversity. She teaches children to be understanding and tolerant of others in suitable ways for their young age. Children go to various different groups in the local area where they develop their social skills when they play with others. The childminder and assistant play music and encourage children to dance and move their bodies. They become more and more adventurous in their movements as they test out what their bodies can do. Children enjoy eating snacks together. The childminder explains about safety as she straps babies securely in their high chair.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident communicators who are developing an extensive vocabulary. They initiate conversations and talk about things that amuse or intrigue them. They ask questions to help them to make sense of things that they do not understand, such as why some people have different textured hair to themselves. Children are developing skills that support them in readiness for starting school. They draw pictures and talk about these, pointing out features and detail. Children are energetic and enthusiastic about their learning.
