Furthermore, she gathers information about children's learning on entry and regularly exchanges information with parents regarding their progress.  Children are cared for in a stimulating and well-resourced environment. They take part in a broad and balanced range of activities that motivates and engages them. Consequently, children make good progress in their development.  The childminder has age-appropriate expectations of children. She manages behaviour effectively. Children learn to share and take turns as they play alongside one another. They demonstrate good levels of independence. They confidently pour their own drinks and enjoy making their own wraps using their choice of filling at mealtimes.  Children's emotional well-being is fostered very well. They develop secure emotional

attachments to the childminder, who is warm and caring towards them. They readily go to her for cuddles and support as they play and learn. Children are happy and settled.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Although the childminder consistently maintains good standards, she does not focus her professional development precisely enough on raising the quality of her teaching to the highest level.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 strengthen professional development plans so that they are more focused on achieving and maintaining outstanding levels of practice.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the activities and the childminder's interactions with children. She spoke to the childminder and children throughout the inspection.  The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as self-evaluation and evidence of the suitability of adults in the home.  The inspector reviewed an activity with the childminder.  The inspector took into account the written views of parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder carries out thorough risk assessments to minimise risks to children, both inside and outside the home. She has a good understanding of the signs and symptoms that would raise a concern about the safety and welfare of children. She knows the procedures to follow and who to contact in her local authority. The childminder keeps her training up to date in this area. The childminder works very closely with the other early years provision that children attend by sharing information to enhance the learning of the children in her care.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder knows children in her care very well and offers an informal, relaxed approach to learning. She provides fun, high-quality learning experiences that reflect children's interests and individual learning needs. The childminder observes, assesses and tracks children's development effectively. She plans carefully to make sure that their next steps in development are achieved. The childminder is very good at using spontaneous learning opportunities to enhance children's development. The childminder continually extends children's knowledge during conversations and activities. She promotes children's communication and language well when she remodels sentences and helps them pronounce words correctly.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children develop a good sense of well-being and belonging. The childminder displays children's artwork and photographs around the home. She also obtains from parents photographs of important people in children's lives and uses these for discussions and to help children settle. Children have daily opportunities for fresh air and exercise, promoting their good health and physical well-being. They learn to take manageable risks as they climb and balance on apparatus. This builds their confidence in their own abilities. Children learn about food that is good for them through discussions at mealtimes. Children develop a positive attitude towards people's differences and similarities. They play with resources that positively reflect diversity and spend time out in the wider community learning about the world around them.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children acquire the key skills, knowledge and attitudes that prepare them for nursery or school. Children confidently express their feelings and needs. They make decisions about what they want to do, such as choosing musical instruments, playing the piano or making buns from the pastry. Children are learning to maintain concentration and show a positive attitude towards learning. They begin to understand that print has a meaning as they look at recipes or enjoy their favourite storybooks with the childminder.
