This provision is good

 The manager has a good understanding about the strengths and weaknesses of the provision. All recommendations made at the last inspection have been met, to help maintain the good-quality provision.  Children are happy and settle well. They build secure relationships with staff, who are kind and caring. Staff support younger children's emotional well-being effectively.  Staff build children's speaking and listening skills well. All children, including those learning English as an additional language, are confident communicators.  Staff make accurate and effective observations and assessments of children's progress, to successfully address any emerging gaps in children's learning. All children make good progress.  Staff skilfully guide children's learning and follow their individual interests well. Children are excited and enthusiastic, and confidently try new experiences to build on their knowledge and skills.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Staff do not consistently ensure that parents are highly involved in supporting their children's next steps in learning and their development at home.  Staff do not use all opportunities to gain a full range of information about children's starting points on entry, to better plan for their learning from the very beginning.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 improve how parents can be more closely involved in supporting their children's learning at home, to further encourage children's development  gain a greater range of information about what children know and can do when they first start at the setting, to help plan more precisely for their learning from the very beginning.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector spoke to staff, children and the manager at appropriate times and observed activities in the indoor and outdoor play areas.  The inspector took account of the views of parents spoken to on the day of the inspection.  The inspector observed the quality of teaching and children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the manager.  The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of the staff team, looked at a selection of children's records and discussed safeguarding procedures and the self-evaluation process with the manager.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The manager is qualified and uses her knowledge and experience to support staff in providing children with a good-quality learning environment. For instance, staff receive regular support from the manager to guide their professional development. They undertake a variety of training opportunities to build on their teaching skills. This has a positive impact on staff skills and outcomes for children. Safeguarding is effective. Staff have a good knowledge of how to keep children safe and what action they would take if they had concerns about the welfare of a child. Self-evaluation is used well to continually improve practice. For example, improvements to the role-play area have strengthened opportunities for children's imaginative play.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff work well together to develop children's individual interests and to plan activities that motivate their play and learning. They join in with children's play and skilfully use these opportunities to extend what children know and can do. For instance, staff teach children well as they make animal footprints in their creative play and encourage them to count along as they learn how many prints they have made. Staff support children's communication and language skills well. They use effective strategies such as modelling new words and questioning children as they play. Staff make regular assessments of children's progress and share key achievements with parents, to keep them informed.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

All children behave well. Staff are good role models and help children to learn about how to value and respect the needs of their friends. Children happily share toys and learn to take turns with resources. Staff value and build on the choices they make. For example, children confidently choose books from the library to share with each other. Staff read to children well using good expression to bring stories to life. Younger children gain good physical skills. For example, they learn how to put on their coats and hats when going outside. Older children gain skills that help them learn how to keep themselves safe. For instance, staff teach them how to cross roads safely when they go on outings.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children, including those learning English as an additional language, make good progress in their speaking and listening skills. Older children begin to link some letters and sounds such as those they recognise from their names. They begin to notice written words in the outside environment and understand that some words carry meaning. These skills help children to become well prepared for their future learning.
