This provision is good

 Children make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder plans an interesting range of activities to capture their interest.  Children behave well. The childminder understands the value of teaching children to be independent, to show respect and care for each other.  Children learn to keep safe, for example they are taught to use scissors safely during art activities and learn to cross roads safely.  The enthusiastic childminder evaluates the effectiveness of her good childminding service accurately and obtains the views of the children and their parents. This leads to continuous improvement in her service.  The childminder supports effective partnerships with parents, which help her to meet the children's individual needs effectively.  Parents are very complimentary about the childminder's service and praise the fact their children learn good manners and make good progress.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder provides information to help parents support their children's learning at home. However, she does not fully encourage them to share details about children's achievements at home to help her target her teaching as precisely as possible.  Children do not have many opportunities to learn more about their own and others' cultural backgrounds.

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection matters and reporting procedures. She updates her knowledge to safeguard children. The childminder knows how to support the health and safety of the children. She risk assesses her premises and takes steps to minimise possible dangers. The childminder knows the children extremely well and their individual learning needs are met effectively.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn and supports them through providing a wide range of positive learning opportunities. She understands how to observe children's abilities on entry, identify any gaps in their development and plan for their future progress. The childminder is skilful at supporting children who are learning to speak English as an additional language. For example, she makes good use of visual aids to help them understand and extend their play and skilfully asks questions and suggests ideas. Children are creative and they enjoy using their imagination, for example, as they design pictures using paint and glitter.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides a welcoming environment and meets the children's individual needs well. She takes time to successfully settle new children and this supports their emotional well-being. The childminder praises children for their efforts and achievements, which increases their confidence and self-esteem. They learn to play cooperatively and to take each other's needs into account. The childminder encourages children to accept and respect others through her interaction and the experiences she offers them. Children benefit from exercise and outdoor activities, which support their physical skills and help them to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in all areas of learning from their starting points in preparation for moving on to school. They develop good speaking and listening skills, and are confident to express themselves. Children enjoy making marks with brushes and pencils in preparation for writing. They enjoy reading stories and, for example, using finger puppets to further support their understanding. Children learn to count and identify colours, shapes and sizes. They enjoy exploring measurement, for instance, as they fill containers with sand.
